Treffen, on hearing no reply from Kalgorn, leaned down and put one ear to his chest. After a moment, he sighed in relief. There was a heartbeat. Now, two choices confronted him: Go bring Echo and the rest back here, or bring Kalgorn to them and find some other place to let him rest. He quickly ruled out the first choice; even if Keso no longer wanted to harm them - and that itself was far from likely - he still knew the location of their den, so it was no longer safe to stay there. His choice made, he leaned down again and pushed his muzzle under Kalgorn's limp body, hoisting him up onto his back. "Hang in there, bud," he said, almost to himself. "We'll get you fixed up." And with that, he left the cave and headed back the way he'd come. At the same time, Echo called after Balto, Kikki and Krystal as they left. "We'll send Treffen after you once he returns." Balto looked back, nodded and took off into a run, with Krystal and Kikki by his side. Hang in there, Jenna. I'm coming for you, baby, don't worry. Just hold on.OOC: My hope is to have Balto and the others go to the old gathering place, pick up Jenna's scent and follow it to Nexxus...who will hopefully still be alive.

While Kalgorn had no idea that Treffin had come to his aid and he now lay bent over on his back, slowly on their way back to safety. Or, at least, somewhere more safe than a den that Keso knew the location of. Kalgorn didn't know about any of this, but due to the sudden motion of his body, he came half-way out of his unconsiousness. He opened one eye, and all he could see was a bunch of swirling shapes. Nothing was in focus. But he was unaware of anything going on. He didn't realize that he was shivering like mad or even take notice that he was laying on another wolfs back. He didn't even wonder where he was or where they were going. Neither did he care who this wolf was. All he knew, the only thing he was able to comprehend, was the pain. He knew nothing but the pain. The sheer agony ripping him apart. He let out one long whine before his body lost grip with reality again and he slipped back into unconsiousness. Back to where Cale was waiting for him with a bloodthirsty look in his eyes. Saliva hung down in ropes from his fangs as he snarled.
OOC: I think I should probably take up another character since Kalgorn's pretty much out of the fight now. He's still going to be in this RP, for how much longer(assuming he doesn't recover) I don't know. But I was thinking I should either create a new wolf, or take over one, for Keso's side.

OOC: Well, that's really up to you. I was kinda hoping Kalgorn would make it through, but then again, he's probably ticked for being left alone (as well he should be), so even if he does make it through, he'll probably leave. Yikes. Do what you want. I'll just sit back and watch.
Balto eyed the sky as yet another thunderclap boomed overhead. Shortly thereafter, a flash of lightning illuminated the forest and the three lupine figures prowling among her trees. Had anyone been watching Balto at that instant, they would have been shocked. Gone were all traces of despair from his eyes and face, replaced by nothing short of unyielding determination. Though his muscles screamed for rest, he kept on with the tenacity of a man posessed. Kikki and Krystal remained close behind him, panting from the effort, but not wanting to slow. Though the wind howled at their backs, chilling them through their fur and piling snow on their backs, they pressed on. Suddenly, Balto stopped, and Kikki and Krystal beside him. "What is it?" Kikki panted. "What's wrong?" Balto said nothing, only sniffed a few timesbefore stepping forward and sniffing again. His eyes shot open, and he dashed forward a few paces and tried again. He shook his head violently and cried out, "No! No!" He snarled loudly and screwed his eyes shut, hanging his head. By this time, Kikki and Krystal were very worried for him and they stepped around in front of him. "Balto, please, what is it?" Kikki repeated. "Are you hurt?" Krystal added. At that, Balto raised his head and opened his eyes again, but this time, they were filled with a terrible sadness, and his cheeks were stained with frozen tears. He whispered something, but his voice was so soft neither Kikki nor Krystal heard him. "What?" Krystal asked, leaning closer. "What did you say?" What Balto said terrified them both. "We're too far behind them. I've lost the scent." For a moment, no one said anything, but then Balto blinked back his tears and took a few steps forward. "You both should go back to Echo now," he said. "You should be protecting Vella and the pups. Only Aniu can bring me to Jenna now." Krystal was the first to reply. "Scent or no scent, we're behind you," she said. "No question." "We'll find her, Balto, together," Kikki added, stepping up beside him again. "I promise. Now let's go." And so, the trio took off again, now more determined than ever to reach their goal. Please, Aniu, I beg of you, Balto prayed desperately, protect Jenna. Don't take her away from me. Please...

Balto quickened his pace as a bolt of lightning split the sky, casting an eerie illumination on the path before him, if only for a split-second. Having long since lost any trace of Jenna or Keso, he was driven on by blind determination. The wind shrieked as it wove between the trees, which shuddered and shook. Balto imagined the rattling trees were like the voices of all those who hated and despised him, all murmuring their pleasure at his plight. So he shut his ears to them as best he could and pressed on.
The further he went into the growing darkness before him, the more his heart seemed to seize up in terror. A thousand horrid images flashed before his eyes, each worse than the last. Oh Jenna, he thought, where are you?
"Balto..."
Balto gave a start and looked frantically left and right as he ran. Jenna! It was her, but there was something strange about her voice, so calm and comforting. And suddenly, she was there, running beside him.
At first, he was too shocked to stop running or even speak, but finally he found his voice.
"Jenna?"
Jenna said nothing, only half turned her head and smiled at him. It was then Balto realized that her entire body seemed...transparent.
"Oh, Jenna, no..."
Again, Jenna said nothing, only leaned toward him to nuzzle him. Balto found to his shock and utter disbelief that he could actually feel her fur against his.
"It will be all right," she whispered.
Just then, she broke off to the left, weaving among the trees and bushes.
“Jenna, wait!” Balto called, turning and putting on an extra burst of speed to follow her. “Wait! Jenna! J-e-n-n-a-a-a-a!”
As the wind howled past his ears and his lungs burned with the effort, he could only barely see her, yet somehow, no matter how fast he ran, he could not catch up. Thankfully, she never vanished either.
Behind him, Kikki and Krystal fought just to keep up. When Balto and turned suddenly to the left, they had no choice but to follow. Their calls had no effect on Balto, and it was only when he called out Jenna’s name that they determined his obsession. But when they saw that Balto seemed to be chasing nothing more than the wind, they began to wonder if his determination had turned to desperation.

OOC: Sorry about that guys. Didn't mean to frost this again. But I'm planning on keeping Nexxus alive just a bit longer I decided to focus a bit on him this post, and we'll hear more from Keso next post.
Nexxus lay on his side, the snow slowly covering his still form. Evidence of his struggle to move was evident in the mounds of snow and earth that he'd formed with his legs. They weren't large, just enough to show that he'd made an effort before exhaustion and blood loss had forced him to be still. His head swam with visions of his surroundings.
'I'm going to die out here anyway. He planned it that way all along. And I played right into his grand design, delivering Jenna to her doom. Balto would never suspect me to have done this. And even if he makes it here, I'll be long gone when he does. He won't understand why I'm here, or how I'm connected. All is lost!'
As he despaired, his breathing seemed to get shallower. The blood flowing out of his veins was slow, but unstoppable at this point. He'd lost so much of it already that there was no hope for him. The thought was haunting, but strangely, comforting for him. He was getting what he deserved for helping the malicious beast. But it did sadden him that he couldn't try and redeem himself. His nose dipped down and colors swirled before him as his own mind tried to knock him out. But then, white took up most of his vision. At first he thought that he must have moved on to the other world, but his vision seemed to clear a bit. The forest was still around him, but what appeared to be a snow white female wolf stood before him. He couldn't tell if it was a dream or not, everything was far too fuzzy to be certain.
"Aah..." The syllable was all that he had the strength to utter. He tried to lift his head further, but as soon as the muscles contracted, pain rocketed through him again, forcing his eyes shut. When he opened them again, he knew that he was conscious, but the ethereal figure was gone.
'Did I just see...' he thought in fragments. Could it really have been true? Or had he just imagined it to give himself comfort in his last moments? Either way, he felt a little more awake now from his effort at movement and the pain focused his attention. 'I won't make it. But maybe, if I can just hang on a little longer...'

OOC: Wow. Sorry I took so long, guys. I guess I thought this one was dead.
"Balto, slow down!" Kikki shouted as she and Krystal fought to keep pace with the brown-tan hybrid. "He thinks he's chasing Jenna," Krystal huffed, jumping over a fallen tree. "He won't stop for anything now, not even us."
Meanwhile, Balto kept up his pace, despite the burning in his lungs and the aching in his legs. He wasn't concerned with them and only kept his eyes on Jenna's fleeing form as it dodged trees and brush, ever-elusive. Try as he might, he could not catch up to her, but it seemed she knew this, and ran just slow enough for him to keep her in his sight. He was so intent on following her, though, that he failed to see - or at least recognize - the river they were fast approaching.
Kikki and Krystal did, though, and were shocked when Balto did not even slow his pace. The river was wide at this part, and close to freezing over. Balto couldn't possibly make the jump.
"Balto!" Krystal screamed. "Stop! The river!" "Stop Balto!" Kikki yelled.
Balto paid their cries no mind. Instead, he tensed himself as he neared the bank. Up ahead, he saw Jenna jump and land neatly on the other bank, never missing a stride. Well, if she can do it, so can I, he thought. Keep going, baby. I'm right behind you. When he reached the bank, he sprung forward and kicked off as hard as he could with his back legs. For a moment, he was flying, soaring above the water, almost to the other bank.
Almost.
A moment later, he felt the sting of a thousand needles as he plunged into the icy river. In those first fleeting seconds, he couldn't move, couldn't breath, couldn't think, even about the pain. Then, he felt his body seizing up in the frigid water. Desperately, he thrashed about, trying to reach the surface. All he could see was the dark water around him, and the darker water below him. Just as he felt his lungs were ready to burst, he felt a sort of push, and suddenly he broke the surface, gasping for breath. His first thought was to go for shore, but he quickly found that the current was carrying him away far faster than he could fight it. Coughing and sputtering each time his strength failed him, plunging him below the water, he cried out in despair,
"J-E-N-N-A!"
He gazed for a moment at the bank that vanished all-too-quickly from his sight, and Jenna with it.
"Balto!"
He swung his face back toward the other bank, where Kikki and Krystal ran alongside the river, tryiing to keep up with him as the river carried him away.
"Fight it, Balto! You have to fight it!" Kikki cried.
With no hope of reaching Jenna, he felt what energy he had drain from him. The burning in his lungs and the terrible aching in his legs finally caught up with him and, along with the piercing icy cold of the river, sapped his remaining strength away. He glanced back to Kikki and Krystal with a look of utter despair and said,
"I...can't..."
Then, right before their eyes, his face slipped beneath the surface.

Just because i don't want to see this RP die either, i'm going to take control of one of the many wolves in Keso's pack. Since Kalgorn's still residing somewhere between death and life, he's in no fit state to be of any help to anyone.
As Triffan traveled on with the bloody Kalgorn on his back, Kalgorn would sometimes come to, and as the pain set in, he would speak in a very feeble and low voice “I deserve this. . .” and then black out again. His dreams were now tormenting him with the guilt he felt that what had befallen his friends and he was his fault. Whatever it was that he had done . . . he felt that he was responsible.
While Nexxus unfortunate predicament played out, and Keso and the pack regrouped for the next part in Keso’s flawless plan, one wolf in particular stood a bit away from the others. He listened intently to his instructions and observed his surroundings. He was a careful and skilled wolf. Powerful and, unfortunately, half blind. He once had a handsome face with a pair of alluring hazel eyes. Now however, in the recent battle, he had lost the use of his right eye. One brown brute had gotten in a lucky blow to his face. As his claws raked across his face, they crossed over his eye. Not only had he lost the use of one eye, but his once handsome face was now a hideous mess.
Cale wasn’t the only wolf to receive an injury to the eye. The only difference here was his eye would never recover. He was forever blind in this eye. Cale’s would heal with time. It may take awhile for him to regain the use of it. But he would still be able to see. His sight may be damaged, but he would still be able to see.
This wolf was a black brute with a strong build. His name was Devious.
