Disney was almost sued by the owners of Kimba but it could not happen because the company had gone bankrupt and the rights to Kimba were dispersed. Disney basically did copy of them, but they worked it out when the owner said he felt it was a honour that Disney would be 'inspired' by there work to create such a film.

I disagree. I used to watch Kimba (and I wish I still did, but I can't find any DVDs of it.), and when I watched the Lion King, I found no similarities (except some.).
In Kimba, Kimba tries to unite humans and animals, but I don't see how The Lion King is similar to that.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I honestly see no similarities whatsoever.

http://www.kimbawlion.com clearly shows how the creators of The Lion King was well aware of Kimba. Infact, when they did early planning for the movie, the main character was a white lion but later changed to a normal lion cub named Simba.
No one can deny the fact that The Lion King has some similarities to Kimba. However, they are still two different movies/series all together. They both advocate different ideas and have different plot development.
I think someone needs to change the topic of this because Kimba came out in 1955, so how the hell Kimba can be a copy of The Lion King?

Above is a side by side comparison of the main characters of both The Lion King and Kimba the White Lion. Too similar to deny anything.

Starlioness is right.......I've got 26 of the 52 episodes made in 1965/66.

wow, this argument has been going on FOREVER! (stressing the 'forever'), but I do think that although Kimba and Simba have a LOT of similarites that Disney was able to tweak their production enough to make it original, yet still copies aspects of Kimba.
I love Kimba and Jungle Emperor Leo, but Simba is my man!

"Do you think so? I do actually. Kimba sounds like simba, only with a K. There is a lion that looks exactly like scar only his eye is closed."
Kimba was going to be Simba, but they wanted a name they could trademark, so they changed the first letter. Simba just means lion in Swahili, so that name can be used by anyone!
There are other similarities too. Search Kimba the White Lion on Youtube. Someone put the whole series up.
