I'm not making fun of them but how exactly do you think they got that way anyway(Flo's adopted(?) pups)

Maybe genetic mutation or somethin' did they kinda weird you out? I mean the fat green one maybe he was green from getting sick because of over-eating or the pink one probably fell into a vat of dye.

Either way I'm just curious,anyone else think it was a bit weird?


I could swear I saw a few them change colors actually...

Multicolored pups?! Weird!

Now that you mention it... it is rather odd that the puppies would be so 'colorful' while the other dogs (especially the main characters) have normal colors that could actually be seen on a dog. Hmm... shocked I haven't noticed sooner >.>

well, you have to remember the movie was made back in 1989.. where lots of cartoon characters were mult-colored.. even in Land before Time and American Tail there were multi-colored characters there.. or maybe it's just a Don Bluth thing..


a few notices on the pups .. the pink pup with the bow in her hair almost looks like Marie from the Aristocats... as well as a spaniel type pup that looks like lady.. and in between her and a yellow pup there's a dog with long ears that looks like copper as a pup.. snd the scene where the pups are listening to the radio is a nice reference to 101 dalmatians .. ( though those pups were watching t.v)

i didnt mention this but i did always look and thought... hm... that aint right..

Now i say.. SPARKLE! even though they dont sparkle they arent realistic designs.. Aside the fact the movies bout drinking and fights and gambling of animals who walk on 2 and 4 legs... STILL atleats all the others had some decent design and breed colourings.

Though they are cute and cuddle-able and i guess people overlook it. Plus had a very memorable song.. i hum that song alot.. the first time i heard it i was haunted.

ofcourse i ment the Whats yours is mine Musical number. not Anne-Marie's lil song. it was good but i remembered the pups/charlie song lot more

I don't recall any colorful characters in American Tail, but as far as LBT goes, no one knows what colors dinosaurs where. Considering reptiles come in a variety of colors today, they could've been quite accurate on the character designs (over looking their cartoon qualities of course).

I agree it is weird that the only odd colored dogs are the puppies and the heavenly whippet (Annabelle) but it is a movie that was made for families. There were really only two weird colored puppies pink and blue and I though some of them looked like cats.

Well, this is a kid's movie. What kid doesn't like a bunch of rainbow puppies? I remember when I was a kid I really liked this part, because it had puppies! And they were blue and pink and green and everything, it was so cool! And they ate pizza!

Besides, can you imagine how much less playful this scene would look if they had normal black brown and white puppies?

Or even with the whippet angel, or Carface even, since he's rather blue himself. It adds something to the characters' design. But not too much, unlike Sparkledogs where they add EVERYTHING to make them unique.

But if you want my opinion on why the blue pup is blue, I think that's just because Willy Wonka was testing his chewing gum on animals and it was the only surviving one that didn't explode.

Interesting, I was only saying that it was a bit weird to me that they were all those different colors,and there was no explanation why.As for Willy Wonka, are you absolutely sure he'd stoop so low as to test chewing gum on animals?

Honeslty the differnt colored pups never bothered me but good point though but then again it is a kids movie. Rember the part where Ann Marie can talk to horses?Well one of them was ALL pink XD. I don't you would see a pink horse in races or in the wild XD^

sure, my bad, all I'm saying is, some kids won't care,some will, if they don't notice,it's probably because of all the other TV shows with funny looking characters dancing to hypnotizing music..

Weird but i think the colours have a purpouse: if you noticed the background is a bit dark...and i think they wanted to make a contrast. Also, they all sing a joyful song, so maybe, there's a connection.

Good point it does lighten the mood.
