Glad this was stickied, its great!

Loved what Phil said about him putting forth the possible idea of bringing Steele back in the 3rd Balto movie for the 'Balto Rescue' scene, interesting thinking about how that would of turned out, would of loved more characters from the first movie in the sequels :)

Hey Steet. I don't know if this has been done, but have you ever sent a interview questionnaire to Steven Spielberg about the first movie? If you do i'd personally like to know about what motivated Balto, in the ice bridge scene, to put the little plant that saved them from falling into the gorge back in the ground. That's perplexed me to no end.

From what I gathered of the interviews (Steets' and dpstqs'), it seemed as though the sequels were directed by the studio producers with Phil just tagging along.

Yes, much easier to make a film with no budget nowadays. Cameras are
much cheaper,
and you can do most of the production work on a home computer.
By the way, we have changed
servers, you might have noticed that projectnolight.com is down. If
you go to

I'm currently
reposting the old podcasts.

Just to let everybody know, Sourcecast did a follow-up interview to this one.

You can listen to the interview on this YouTube video.

You can download the transcript here.

Phil is a professional who is still in the film industry, so I don't think giving out contact info is the best idea. If I may ask, why are you interested in speaking with him?

I wanted to discuss the Balto movies with him, in a simple little letter; honestly, he's the best one I can think of to talk to regarding this matter. I know it's very unlikely, but with the supposed news that Gavin Hood will be directing a movie based on The Cruelest Miles, it might be a good time to get the Balto movies reintroduced to the public. Besides, I think the Jurassic Park movies are a good example that it's never too late to make a comeback.

Phil really has no control over what is to become of the Balto movies. He only directed the second and third film, that's it. He has no sway over bringing the movies back to life. And at that, I'm sure he is quite busy as well.

You would almost have to contact Universal Studios themselves, but I have my doubts. Universal pretty much has moved on from the Balto franchise.

At the very least, I'd like to talk with him about my opinions on the movie in general. Beyond that, who knows what could happen?

I think everyone has at least one person they'd like to do that with, sit down and give their thoughts on something the person did. I know there are a few authors I'd like to ask about things they did (and in some cases give a piece of my mind, admittedly). If I end up pursuing a career in journalism, as some have suggested, I'd really like to get teh chance to interview some of the directors, animators, and actors behind different animated movies, including Phil Weinstein.
