Looks like Balto ( they're alaskan huskies ).

Looks like Nikki ( sorry, I don't know the english name of the breed, but in french it's " Chow chow" )

Looks like Kaltag ( it's an Akita inu )

Looks like Nava and Aleu ( it's a grey wolf )

Looks like Niju ( it's a wolf, but I don't know the exact breed )

the " derp " one looks like Yak ( It's a wolf, but I don't know the exact breed )

Looks like Ralph ( it's a Malamute )

Kaltag is said on the Internet Movie Database page for the Balto movie to be a Chinook, yes. Though Chinooks would have been unknown in Alaska at the time. They were only known and bred in northern New England and far eastern Canada.

Star is said, on the same page, to be an Alaskan Klee Kai. However, the Alaskan Klee Kai breed didn't exist until the 1970s, some fifty years or so after the serum run.

Whether or not any of the information on the IMDB page is, in fact, official or just some IMDB member posting it is irrelevant where the historical facts are concerned. Of course, that being said, Hollywood rarely pays much credence to historical facts.

There is no official answer to either of those questions. I've always believed that Kirby was either a Siberian husky or an Alaskan husky. As to Doc, my presumption always was Saint Bernard.

Of course, that's the point...in the end, it's whatever you believe as a fan and a viewer...in lieu of any official explanation.

Why all the questions about what they are anyway?

I think that Kirby can be a Malamute too. Reddish-brown coloration on Malamutes is rare, but possible.

As for Ralph, totally a Giant Malamute. They are beary and huge, just like Ralph:
