It is not a new breed. Nor a new variation.
The Labrador Retriever only comes in 3 colours - Yellow (Commonly referred to as 'Golden'), Black and Chocolate. Until the breed club states otherwise there can be no recognised colours outside of these select three. Not even Red Labradors. It's just a rip off.

they're not a real breed.. and probably NEVER will be... it's just something genetic.. probably bad from what i hear.. but it does give them something... but it kind of makes the dogs look old or off colour... like they're sick or something.. lol... people breed them thinking they're an actual breed... and there's a site where this women sells them for 1000$ for maybe a dog with problems ?.. who knows but it's not very known but i wouldn't trust it anyways.. and generally new breeds like this are inbred to keep the gene... and to OBAGR some ARE mutts... but some are actually just purebred with that gene.. it's like albinism and such... it's something carried and once enough of it.. it can create the coat colour.. and the black and yellow lab mix.. lol that doesn't exist and your picture btw of that dog looks like a cut out since i can see more than just the body .. anyways some "silver" labs are mutts and some actually carry a genetic to it giving it a silvery look...

Actually silver labs ARE a real "breed." they aren't a new breed or anything, they are just more rare then the three main colors. Silver labs are AKC registered, the only catch is they are registered under "chocolate" labs. DNA testing and mapping were done on silver labs and they are, no doubt about it, pure bred labs The "Silver lab challenge" offers 100,000,000 dollars to any one who can prove them wrong after all the tests they have done and such So, basicly, silver labs are a different shade of chocolate labs^^ OwnedByAGoldenRetriever wrote: That's... not how dog colour genetics work. "1) The foundation for the AKC registry is based on parentage and not color. 2) We should register all Lab pups coming from purebred AKC registered Labs. 3) We should not register Labs as "Silver." 4) After a review of pictures, the file and history of this issue which goes back to 1987, we feel the most appropriate color for registration is Chocolate. 5) We will entertain complaints of impure breedings on an individual basis, but complaints should be based on more than color." Those are the exact words from the AKC

Those are the exact words from the AKC yeah i read into "silver" labs more.. and i met a breeder who has a registered "chocolate silver" lab under chocolate labrador. Although these new labs would not be able to participate in dog shows.. because it doesn't go under the standards.. and also they can also come as charcoal .. or "silver black" labs... i saw a breeder who sells them for 1000$ just because of the rare silver gene .. wth! lol.. but to be honest.. these silver labs are probably all inbred because for one you need 2 gene carriers to crate more silver lab pups. So i would not consider getting these dogs no matter how pretty and "special" they are. And some "silver" labs are bred to weimereners who also give the silver effect. So you either got a mutt.. or an inbred puppy .. lol and it's the samething with albinism, you need 2 albino gene carriers to create an albino animal. Just making a point

I've never seen a silver lab before. Silver is most definately rare so far to them.

Quote: Silver is most definately rare so far to them. Please at least read the previous posts. It is not rare... Its very unlikley you will meet any dog expert or breeder saying a certain colour or markings on certain breeds are "rare". Also i'm afraid to say but you will probably never see a "silver lab" just a mix breed.
