The Cold Winds Herd is far from the lands of the Cimarron Herd. A small copse borders a low hill at the far end of an open prairie, and it is on this hill that Ice, the herd stallion, can often be found, keeping an eye on his mares and foals in the field below. This is his private area, and herd members found trespassing here will be punished. The lands lie to the North, so in winter the ground is often covered in a thick layer of snow, and blizzards are commonplace. The dapple grey stallion, Ice, is the primary stallion of the Cold Winds Herd. However, he is not the herd’s leader. The Cold Winds Herd operates much like a real horse herd, with the Lead Mare making the directive decisions and actually leading the herd. Although both horses can be a little cold and abrupt with their herd members, they are fair and just leaders.
Ice is primarily looking for mares to join his herd, but he may make some exceptions for some stallions.
Roles:Lead stallion: The Lead stallion’s responsibility is to gather new members for the herd, breed with his mares and protect the whole herd from attack by predators and other animals, including humans. When the foals, male and female, are 2 years old it is his responsibility to drive them out of the herd.
Lead Mare:In this herd, the Lead Mare is the main decision maker of the herd. It is her job to decide where the herd will graze and rest, to maintain discipline and order amongst the herd members and to punish mares or foals that are behaving inappropriately. She has the power to banish unrepentant herd members. What’s more, it is her job to keep the herd safe when the Lead Stallion is otherwise occupied, such as when he is fighting another stallion. Her foals also enjoy a higher place in the herd hierarchy than the foals of other mares.
Mares:In the Cold Winds Herd, the mares must respect and obey the Lead Mare, or they may be expelled or banished. They must treat each other fairly and appropriately, and raise their foals to the best of their abilities. They all have the right to breed with the Lead Stallion, but must ask his permission to breed with another stallion in the herd. They may not, under any circumstances, breed with stallions outside the herd, or with males inside the herd without the Lead Stallion’s permission.
Foals:Foals have the responsibility to obey their mothers and the herd leaders, to learn and to be safe. Under no circumstances may they approach the Lead Stallion, unless invited to by him. They will all be expected to leave the herd once they are 2 years old.
Other Stallions:If the Lead Stallion permits any other adult males to be in his herd they must respect his rules. They will be expected to help him protect and defend the herd against any and all enemies and threats. In return, they are allowed to have 2 mares of their own within the herd. If they want more than 2 mares they’ll be expected to leave the herd and start their own herds.
• The Cold Winds Herd will accept any horses regardless of their breed, colouring or confirmation, as long as they are strong, healthy and respect the herd rules.
• Don’t need to write out a huge bio for your character here, just fill in the form and make sure your character has a profile page on your homepage.
• Under no condition are herd members allowed to talk about Ice’s last herd, the Northern Lights Herd.
• You can use linearts but credit the original artist
• If your mare has been accepted into the herd, and you’d like her to have a foal with Ice, you don’t need to ask. Just let me know when you’ve made it and I’ll add it to the list of his foals.
These rules may be updated at any time, normally because I’ve forgotten something.
