This is a good question to discuss. :)
I have never watched Kimba so I'm not fit to comment on that part of the discussion but I'll say my opinions of The Lion King. :)
I don't think The Lion King is over rated. It's not your typical "Kids" type Disney movie. Adults can enjoy it too. The emotions shown are very powerful and true but not too deep for younger audiences.
Also, there are some really unpredictable plot twists, not your usual "Good Guy Always Wins." e.g. Mufasa didn't "beat" for want of a better word Scar, did he? Yes, Simba did, but it was told in such a way that you didn't know who would previal.
It's got some of the most beautiful music aswell, really showing people what Africa is all about. And some of the most emotion scenes; Mufasa's death, Simba's grief, Mufasa's ghost and there are many more.
As I said before, i don't think that The Lion King is over rated at all. People are still watching it over a decade after it was released.

I did not watch Kimba's movie too,so I cannot say anything about it.But I'll share my opinion.

When I was 9,I first saw TLK 1.I absolutely loved it and later I saw TLK 2 and 3...I loved them.
Later, when I reached 10 or 11 (I'm 12 now) years age,I still kept on looking at it,watching...Then I came up with my own characters,my own stories,RP's,and...And TLK become just like a minor thing in my life.It just became a bit boring to me...Everything the same...All characters,storyline...
Now I just didn't like it as much as I did when I was younger. For me,it's not such a masterpiece anymore-now I prefer Balto more.TLK has merchandise, eveything, while Balto doesn't.THat just bothers me.

That's my opinion,so I should say that yes,TLK is too overrated. At least for me.

TLK? Overrated?

I'm sorry, I could never call such a masterpiece 'overrated' XD I think this wonderful and majestic film deserves every ounce of it's fame and popularity. The animation is truly STUNNING; so realistic, the music is amazing, I LOVE the African feel it gives to the scenes, the songs are really enjoyable and so memorable; something truly rare in Disney classics; the characters are unforgettable and the plotline is just brilliant. And the stampede scene is perhaps the most extreme and breathtaking scene ever in an animated movie - the groundbreaking (phew, so many long words!) the sound effects, the screams, the death...and of course there's Simba finding his father's dead body and so on.

I absoloutely love this film. I grew up with it; and very quickly learnt every song off by heart; and by now I know practically the entire script. And yes, it IS similar to Kimba. But it's because it was inspired by Kimba. And about the names being similar, Simba means 'male lion' in Swahili. ;]

But Tani and gold kitty...you 2 are seriously overreacting. This is a great topic; and it shouldn't be offensive towards you; for it's just an interesting debate on opinion. Canis Lupus honestly doesn't care what you think of Balto. And neither do I, and I am an EXTREME Balto & TLK fan. And you two are taking this so offensively when it isn't MEANT to BE offensive. So seriously; stop it and start acting more mature. Canis is 14, and she's handling your opinions extremely well. Why can't you handle her's in the same way??

And what does this topic have to do with Balto anyway?! And stop speaking about TLK and Balto fans like they're 2 different sorts of people. Us Balto fans are sure as hell allowed to come into 'your' boards (which they aren't). For some people might love both TLK AND Balto - like me. And I HATE Balto 2; but I still go in that board to share opinions. And you's have every right to come into the Balto boards as we do in the TLK boards. It's not like TLK boards are forbidden access for a certain number of people, jeez >.>

Anyways; I love this film just as much as Balto; even a little bit more than Balto. It's a timeless classic that I'll always keep close to my heart XDD

Haha, I couldn't have said it better myself! I have also grown up with The Lion King, from the tender age of 2, maybe even before that. It's strange how some films, with a combination of animation, music, and the general FEELING of them, can make such an imprint on people's hearts. Well, story is, ever since dvds have replaced videos, my parents have NEVER bothered to get The Lion King, even though I reminded them time and time again, it was a brilliant classic movie and we loved it, even though we hadn't watched it for years. Stupid parents.

Anyway, half a year or so ago, when I was 13, we went round to a cousin's house, and TLK was one of the films suggested watching, even though the youngest of us was nine, and the oldest 17, so it would seem a bit "babyish", but I could barely suppress my joy at the thought of watching such a fantastic film again! And SOMEHOW *taps nose* it won the vote, and wehn we saw it, I was suprised at how much of it, the music, the scenes, the animation, little snippets of dialougue, I remembered so freshly from far earlier years. It all came rushing back to me in a refreshing gush of memories revisited, and I found myself feeling the same feelings, thinking how cute baby Simba was, the breathtaking birth ceremony, the excitement and terror of the stampede, the sadness (when I was young I found this VERY distressing  ) scene of Mufasa dead, the romance and magic of the Simba/Nala scene, and the triumph of the vitcory scenes, e.t.c. Atthe end I was so glad we'd chosen that film to watch, instead of...Hancock or something. So, as Rebel said, some films you just grow up with, and they stick close to your heart. ^^

Alright, enough cheesiness. I must say, when I first went on that Kimba website, I was suprised at how much Disney had copied from Kimba. You could barely call it inspired, the amount that was took from Kimba was sheerly awful. Especially, probably the most original scene, the one with the lion in the clouds roaring. I mean, geez. Let a man have his own.

It really did..spoil Lion King for me. To see that it really was just an updated version of Kimba. BUT what Lion King achieved on it's OWN was truly brilliant, and it really is a must-see movie, for me. You really haven't seen it all until you've seen the Lion King. Overrated? Nah. It achieved much on it's own. But as they say......ignorance is bliss.

That was un-needed. I may have already posted here, but i'll do it again;
No, I don't think TLK is overrated, and "Overrated" means, on some tearms; overly popluated.
Heck, I can't find one good active TLK site, not even The Lion King Source is active as much, but yet, this may or not be a fact, it is my opioin, if there was is : Balto overly populated; I'd say: YES. [Example; All the users on BS who freak when you diss Balto, This is MY point of view]
But I don't really think TLK is overrated, it was very good [I personaly thought it copyied too much off of Kimba] and it was strong, it's not every day you get to see a dead body in a Disney movie.

By the looks of what I'm reading, it looks like we have started a kitty fight! x3! lol just kidding.

ANYWAYS, I really don't think TLK is over rated. I mean, you never find movies like these anymore! It's obviously a classic! But no, not overrated, not one bit (in my opinion). So yeaah.

Hmm, I a little off-topic I suppose, but if you think TLK ripped-off Kimba, get a load of this:

I know the cases are completely different with all TLK's success and stuff, but seriously, this has gotta make you feel sick D8
