Who's watching?? Stayed up late watching the Opening Ceremonies last night and thought they were terrific! I know some people didn't care for it, but I think that's b/c we were a bit spoiled by China from last time. I'd knew that their program would be tough to beat. Anyway, looking to the games, especially swimming, gymnastics, and tennis :D

I switched the channel to the middle of the United States' gymnastic team's go last night (at least I got a chance to watch the rerun, though). We were pretty good there
But we got beat by France by like 46 point something seconds in the 100-meter freestyle relay >.< Well, sliver's still good :3

This is neither a film nor a series. It is a sporting event. This belongs in the "Other" board.

You can ask a mod to move it. c:

I'm not that much into Sport myself, but I enjoyed the Opening Ceremony. I thought it was awesome. xD They really did well with it.
Been enjoying watching some of the Equestrian events too, particularly the Cross Country.

And I don't really watch sports. There are some I would watch in the Olympics as they're uncommon on TV (such as swimming and another one I'm thinking of but can't remember the name of...), but I never know when they're on and am not interested enough to actually look it up.

I'm looking forward to the track & field events myself. Especially the marathon.

I think the opening ceremony beat Beijing's because it was not...Beijing. The Beijing Opening Ceremony was about launching China as a superpower, the London one was more reflective of everything Britain has contributed to the world. Thankfully though, they didn't include Empire. However, the internet was not so kind: http://cdn.memegenerator.net/instances/ ... 089854.jpg

With regards to medals, I think the British are showing great natural restraint, by letting America and China take all the medals.

We don't want to be too greedy, right? :)

Thanks for moving the thread, Roi. Conay, that's a very interesting perspective -- you raise a good point! Although I must admit that that meme with QE2 cracks me up every time

QE2? http://johnhealdsblog.com/wp-content/up ... jpg?84cd58
Or QEII? http://static.fjcdn.com/pictures/Kill+t ... 950763.jpg

I'm kidding :D

For anyone wanting to keep up to date with the latest medal standings, the London 2012 website gives the most reliable information (I noticed NBC counts it in 'total medals' as opposed to ranking countries by gold, then silver, then bronze).

http://www.london2012.com/medals/medal-count/

Alternatively, some mobile apps: http://www.london2012.com/mobileapps/

Miss an event? No problem! Catch it on the NBC Olympics website!
Example: http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/track- ... n-mds.html
I'm watching this one right now.

Not that anyone would want to listen or watch NBC's coverage of the Olympics.

For UK viewers, here's your link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/2012/live-video

EDIT: Ooh look, another meme: http://cheezburger.com/6488166656

So..

That is IT – the Olympics are over :(

The final medal recap of the top five countries:
United States of America - 46/29/29 (104)
People's Republic of China - 38/27/22 (87)
Great Britain and Northern Ireland - 29/17/19 (65)
Russian Federation - 24/25/33 (82)
Republic of Korea (Nice Korea) - 13/8/7 (28)

Interestingly, Team GB has won more Golds in 2012 than in 1972, 1976, 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992 and 1996 combined.
