To make this sound Deadliest Warrior-y, I shall do it like this:

While cats may be snuggle bugs when they wanna be, they can also be bad tempered and are more likely to scratch you if you annoy them. Dogs are normally calm, and unlike cats you can wrestle with them if you want and have little to no risk of being hurt. Edge, Dog.

Cats lie around all day and they do come when you want them to, that's it. They also have to be trained to go in the litterbox just like a dog for outside. Dogs can be taught a variety of tricks to keep you and itself amused (I say 'it' because it depends if it's male or female.) and actually listen to commands. Edge, Dog.

Dogs and cats are both territorial, so neither gets an edge.

Dogs can guard a family against thief because it can bite, scratch, and chase. Cats, at the first moment they get startled, run as if their tail is on fire. Dogs are also used to help people with some disabilities like blindness or deafness. Edge, Dog.

... In case you can't tell, I pick dogs (German Shepherds to be exact. I read that they are fast learners, so they are easy to train. So again: Edge, Dog).

...everything you just said (especially the German Shepherd part) - I almost totally agree with. :3

I've never ever owned a dog, and this really depresses me. I've never had a dog childhood. I've grown up with cats, and I'm almost sick to death of them. Mine's so annoying, always demanding for attention and food. If we were ever burgled, he'd walk right up to him and be all affectionate and cute. Useless. -_-

Don't get me wrong, I do love him. He's my baby, I've had him ever since he was a tiny kitten. But god he annoys me xD

Dogs are simply unbeatable. They've helped mankind in so many ways. You simply can't get that kind of loyalty from any other creature - not even human beings. Cats just see you as something to pet and feed them, most of the time. Dogs GIVE love, while cats simply recieve it.

Well I do agree with most here, I enjoy dogs much more then cats. I suport both, seeing I have a cat (and two dogs.)

I have to argue, because I've taught my cat -most- of the tricks my dogs know. Sit, paw, laydown, and she listens very well. It takes a bit more patient then teaching a dog, but it can be done.

To be honest I love dogs more than cats
Though having a cat is pretty low-maintenance (there's not much training involved, and all you have to do is leave it food, water and a little bowl, just about). And they don't have to be trained to love you. They're very useful for snuggling with ^^

I'm not much of a cat person, to tell you the truth. It's because cats are anti-social. I know that I shouldn't talk, as I used to be anti-social, but that's besides the point. Also, I am allergic to cats. My favorite pet is the dog. Dogs are more loyal, I think. In fact, my dog is practically my best friend.

I've had cats who acted like dogs. I taught them tricks and even took them on walks.

I have dogs that act like cats. They are skittish and wouldn't consider walking on a leash.

I have rabbits and a guinea pig. I have rats, gerbils, hamsters and ferrets. I have pot bellied pigs, goats and miniature horses.

But I do have my favorites.....

My FAVORITE pet is definitely my ball python, Davy Jones, for so many reasons.

-He's very low-maintenance
-eats maybe 3 times a month
-never needs to be walked
-doesn't stink up the house with people-food farts or accidents on the carpet
-he doesn't bark or yowl
-he doesn't take up much room.
-he doesn't dig holes in the yard
-doesn't chew up my shoes.
-he doesn't scratch up the couch or the curtains
-he certainly doesn't randomly decide to attack because he's tired of being petted.

He is affectionate when I need him, he knows who I am (he can tell the difference between me and a stranger) and he's just lovely to look at, hold and touch.

I think a lower-maintenance reptile (like a ball-python, garter snake, or corn snake, or even a leopard gecko) is a very easy, rewarding and interesting animal to own.

Don't get me wrong, I love all of my pets, and I adore my wolfdogs to no end, but as far as house-pets go, it's the ball python for me all the way.

Now, as far as entertainment goes, the most hilarious critters to watch are the ferrets. I just love watching them randomly spazz out and then dart away. Get a fun young ferret and a kooky friendly cat together and you don't even need a TV. Just watch them have fun.

The pet of mine that I consider my best friend, even though he's higher maintenance then some of the others is my Guinea pig, Chewy. Never in my life have I met such a friendly, happy and loyal rodent-like creature as my Chewy. And I normally don't even like Guinea pigs! But there's just a special charisma about Chewy that makes him irresistible.

I hardly consider my wolfdogs 'pets'. Phantom is my brother, my companion, my confidante. He does his own thing, but is always ready to give me a hug and let me hold him for as long as I need to.
