Hmmm...Interesting thread DT, and an interesting first question to start off with.
Well, admittedly I nabbed this idea from another forum, and their opening question was something else. I thought of various movie scenes were a character's (insert friend or relative) died or appeared to have died, hence my choice. Also, the question didn't necessarily mean murder (just an FYI). Accidental deaths such as natural disasters could also be a possibility. Maybe I should fine-tune the rules to seek more precise questions.

Now for my question to ask you: What would your character(s) do if they found out a truth about a friend or relative that contradicted what was told to them by a person dear to them?
Now I wish I had left the door open to non-Balto characters, as this actually will happen to one of my dragons eventually.
The question is very open-ended, being as the truth in question could be any number of things (the friend or relative might be adopted, have a background other than what the MC was told, etc. Also, the one the truth pertains to might or might not have known it themselves, etc.). Because it comes readily to mind, I'm going to go with something where Pete finds out his father wasn't really a purebred. As unlikely as it is in context, if it happened to Pete before he had his change of attitude he would probably be furious. If he found out after he changed, he'd probably mainly be bothered at whoever was passing off mutts as purebreds to make a buck, since Alicia (owner of Terry and formerly of Yukon) sold Pete and the other pups as pedigrees and presumably did so in good faith that they were. He might also be concerned what other dogs might think of him if they learned the truth.
Come to think of it, Luna went through a similar ordeal as a pup; while she hadn't been told directly that her mother wasn't related to anyone infamous, she was certainly shocked and devastated to learn that such was the case. Although I didn't zero in on her part in much detail, she probably suffered not only a great deal of harm to her own self-image, but also had a hard time trusting her parents for a while. Toby shared her ordeal to some degree, and though he had no self-image problems tied to it, he nearly lost his best friend out of the whole mess.
OK, now for a more direct question: What would your character do if they found out they were adopted?
