Why would you state this and then go ahead anyway and list your dislikes? It's contradictory. Either you DO or you DON'T.

Besides that, what BALTOTLK did was still off-topic. If she has no character dislikes, she should not post in here and distract from the discussion. And that is exactly what that is...a distraction from the topic at hand.

No, I understand her point. The question "Which one do you hate most?" is phrased very strongly. Many of us don't HATE, or even really dislike, any of the characters. That doesn't mean you can't mention the ones that fall at the bottom of your list, if you ranked them all from favorite to least favorite. I'm pretty much the same way, as I'm sure I said whenever I gave my response. They were just the ones with whom I found the most fault, in one way or another--even if I still did like them.

Oh, and BearTears...the Afghan is Sylvie. (She and Dixie are definitely on my favorites list.) And as for the Saint Bernard...well, he wasn't really that important a character, but I just got the sense that he was supposed to be like the wise old leader whenever all the local dogs met--the one everyone else looked up to and respected, or at least felt they had to listen to. That's the kind of sense I personally got about him.

And I get that, Le. But let's be honest here...even if almost none of us can really say we "hate" something as inconsequential as a fictional character in an animated movie (the language of kids and teens notwithstanding when it comes to such questions...because they very often do use the term "hate" even if they don't really grasp just how powerful a word it is, much less its underlying meaning), the topic does at least presume that the reader (and responder) does--at the very least--dislike a character...whichever that is. We may not say we even "dislike" a character, but come on now. People who, for example, vent their spleens ad nauseum about Stella, Aleu, Dipsy or the little yappy white terrier, for example, don't do so simply because they are either saying it or just parroting the statements of some others about those particular characters. They really have a dislike for the character(s) in question...on either a casual or even a visceral level.


Hate? Maybe not. But dislike? Absolutely so. But to the response I gave to that person (a guy, I believe, incidentally), given the theme of this topic, it seems silly to me for a person to say that they don't either hate or even dislike a character, and then agree with a previous poster who did the same. The topic is about whatever character(s) one does "hate", and presumes that one is going to identify them. Not that they're going to post and say "i dont haet ne of them".


And certainly I don't mean to argue with you (I really don't ), but this topic really doesn't mean to infer that a person should quantify the characters, from their own viewpoint, in a top-to-bottom ranking, or simply rank their bottom "least favorites". You know what I mean?


Incidentally, the Saint Bernard (if that is what he is supposed to be), is Doc, as you probably do already know. Just FYI n'stuff...

Sure, I know what you mean. I certainly wasn't trying to argue with you, either. I think most of us realize that we don't literally "hate" any of these characters--more of a strong dislike, at most. I just thought that it would be perfectly valid to answer the question with, "I actually like all of them/don't hate any of them at all." You definitely don't need to rank all of them in order to answer, either. I personally interpreted it in those terms because no one immediately came to mind for me, and I wanted to be sure that I was accounting for all of the characters in all of the films. In my case it was more a matter of disliking particular aspects of a character, but still basically liking him/her overall for one reason or another. That was kind of what I thought that other person (sorry if I misidentified your gender!) was doing--i.e., pointing out the characters with the most traits he didn't care for, and were simply his least favorites. 'Cause somebody's got to be at the bottom, even when you do like everyone!

But there is nothing wrong with disliking, or even hating, a character and/or what that character represents in one's mind. There are characters in other films, shows, and stories that I have actively disliked.

And yes! *slaps self* Of course--Doc is the Saint. I should have mentioned his name. The fact that he had one just sort of slipped my mind when I was talking about him. Doy. xD
