I think it is necessary to point out, for all those who seem to believe otherwise, that Ren & Stimpy was most definitely not a children's cartoon. Quite often, it had themes and situations which were aimed at an older audience. Certainly not on the level of Beavis & Butthead or South Park (two other non-children's cartoons), but occasionally coming within striking distance of those.

Agreed, South park wasnt even on any ofthe childrens channels, was on comedy central which is a channel for older people so it aint really considered a kid show.. and the way they act and bad language its simple to notice that.
Beavs and Butthead i didnt watch but i had seen things and i think its just like southpark when its not for kids but for older people like jersey said.
Ren and stimpy is odd.. If im right the show was shown on a kidchannel, not sure which but i know it was. It doesnt look like a show for kids buti t was considered a childrens show, But if you think about it whats so childish about it? Everything the show was insane i think it was just ment to freak out people of any age, And as isaid it was on a kids channel so you could consider it to be one. Plus it didnt involve things you would notice in the other two shows (Gore,Sexual moments,Bad language (Kinda). But i get your point it dont seem for kids.. But i think it was just a Different type of kids show. Plus i watched it as a kid so i add that show to my list.

first of all.. no comment on the video is the rest of the video just like that? I never of thought that ren and stimpy would be somewhat like that i just thought it be randomly insane things. or maybe they do it still in the show i watched but i didnt realise till now..

And Ha that first Ecard was funny

This john K only do aniamting for kids? as from the website looks like he does like four from the list..

But on the video section it seems this is the guy made a video that my friend shown me along time ago in school.. He did that?? Im not saying he does bad work but just when you think of a animater for a cartoon you expect some others simular, but i never knew he of made that video of.. Ok moving on

Well i see what you mean now i aint seen this show for like.. 5years? so i might not have realised till now of what exactly this show was showing, i was young and mindless and only recently remembered from a top 11 animated shows on the nostalgia critic, And he explained it was insane but funny.. so i believed him and now i just cant even watch the show no more, i didnt watch more then 3 minutes of that video cause if thats uncut i dont want to see, one cause i like cartoons to be clean (Even if felidae / watership down and such wernt that clean atleast they kept away from such things). and two if normal ren and stimpy is weird.. uncut is unpredictable.

(Sorry if im not that great at making a large post im still learning to improve my grammer and such)

The point is that he DIDN'T make cartoons specifically for children. In fact, all of his works are aimed at an older audience who can appreciate his retro style of animation...which draws influence from the classic cartoons of the 1950s and 60s (specifically Hanna Barbera stuff like the Flintstones, the Jetsons, etc.). He was going for recognition by an older audience, and a tip of the hat to those classics, I am certain. And again, his subtle messages and imagery (including the double-entendre and sexual innuendo so often seen in his works) were certainly not aimed at kids...even in the routine, often-aired Ren & Stimpy episodes.

After all, do you think that such golden-era classics (from the 30s and 40s) as the Looney Tunes and Tex Avery cartoons were aimed at kids? Or even the Flintstones and the Jetsons? If so, think again. The former were meant purely to entertain people and keep them in their seats, in movie theaters, while they awaited the newsreel and the main feature. And in the latter two, they were (even like the former) loaded with pop-culture references of the time which only adults (as well as older teens) would understand and appreciate...just as was the case with Ren & Stimpy. All this stuff could (and did) entertain kids as well, but it was only subtlely-designed to look like kid-centric material.

First of all what is your point of "kid" and "Teenager" im lost in the fact what ages were considering these are

The flintstones and loony toons the only shows i have seen the others you mentioned (except ren and stimpy ofcouse) i have heard of but never seen at all.
But now i think about it Flintstones did seem more aimed to older children. Loonytoons i still think was aimed for younger kids like ages 10 and such, as it is funny and cartoony. i can see what you mean that Children would find these shows funny, but wont understand what most of the things told in it ment, but older kids or adults would understand and be entertained aswel

am i right so far? i got alittle lost in your second paragraph

I'd really rather not go through all of that again. And besides, don't take this the wrong way, but I'm not your English teacher. I did not register on this site specifically to monitor and grade peoples' English usage. So unless Togo wants to assign me as Animation Source's first "English Grammar & Spelling Moderator", t'aint gonna happen

Well my friend, till then your going to suffer my terrible english grammer *Evil laugh*

Quote:
It ought to be pretty obvious. In most first-world countries, age categories are generally broken down thus:

Infant (up to 1 year)

Toddler (2-4 years)

Child (5-8 years)

Pre-Adolescent/"Preteen" (9-12 years)

Adolescent/"Teenager" (13-18 years)

Young Adult (19-24 years)

Adult (25 years and up, including senior citizens)

Senior Citizen (generally 65 years and up)

Aha i see now, i expected it as 5-12 for Child, forgot the pre-teen age

Quote:
As I said, the Looney Tunes, Tex Avery, Flinstones, and Jetsons cartoons (and many others of the 30s-60s) were quite frequently seeded with pop culture and political references which ONLY adults and older teenagers could understand. What part of that is difficult to understand? Those shows were definitely not aimed specifically at kids. However, they were aired (or shown theatrically) to them as well. It was during the 70s and 80s (and thereafter) that those classic characters were revamped to be aimed specifically at kids with newer material.

Was difficult to read cause your posting to someone struggling to master english/grammar and you use big words i have yet to learn such as
former were meant purely
awaited the newsreel
pop-culture references
latter two
subtlely-designed to look like kid-centric material

I know im from england and i should know english.. but i still struggle so i got lost of what you ment of those sentences.

And i see now what you mean. And now i know and now your jobs done and im sure the other people reading this will learn to. (Tempted to use G.I.Joe quote..)

Nooot exactly cause we still talking of ren and stimpy (Slightly) and talked about the reasons of childrens TV programs are sometimes not sure aimed for them but also for older people.. So.. On topic!

I remembered some shows i liked when i was like 12-14. which im ashamed of right now, and they are live-action

disney channel-
Suite life of zack and cody
Thats so raven
Lizzie migure (Spelling)

And the one show i cant believe i have forgotten, was my favourte show since i was so young

Tom and Jerry - I LOVE tom and jerry i still do i just cant believe why i left this out my list since i watched it since a kid and enjoyed it very much and still do now i will watch any episode if i crossed one. So thats added to my list now

Edit: Also again forgot to add.

Simpsons - This is another one i can see more aimed for older children, but i still enjoyed watching this when i was young. and i still watch it now even though its geting quite old and still making episodes.. i still love the classics now and back then

Let's see. I really enjoyed:

Sonic X
All Dogs Go To Heaven: The Series
Fairly Odd Parents
Ed Edd & Eddy
Arthur
Redwall TV Series

I'm sure there are a few more, but those are the ones I mostly remember watching when I was younger, or even still today, lol.
