Joe is the son of Gin and Sakura, Weed and Yukimura's brother. 

Sakura grew ill after the birth of the three puppies and so, she gave Joe and Yukimura to another dog named Saheiji, who brought them to his home place. They got attacked by a group of macaques led by Shogun and Joe was assumed dead. Still alive, Joe was saved by a man and became a hunting dog. He falls in love and has four puppies with a female named Hitomi, who is sadly killed, along with three of the pups, by a hybrid bear. Only a puppy survives and he's called Koshiro.Joe decided that, with his master and other hunting dogs, he wants to kill all the hybrid bears.

He meets Weed later on but doesn't want to be in touch with him and is very bitter towards Gin, for leaving their mother alone. He manages to kill the hybrid bear that killed his family but gets badly wounded and is saved by Weed. They are in better terms and Joe decides to see his father, only after the death of all hybrid bears. Once this happens, Joe, along with Koshiro, see Gin and join his father and brother in Ohu.

In GDW:O he is the uncle of Weed's four puppies. He drowns in a river while he and his nephew Orion are separated from the rest of the dogs after an earthquake. Joe shielded Orion from the current but, while the pup survives, Joe is hit on his head by a rock and loses his senses, drownining.
