Ginga Nagareboshi Gin is a story written by Yoshihiro Takahashi that tells the story of a silver brindle Akita named Gin. Yoshihiro Takahashi was inspired to write this story because he loved dog so much and recently in the news there were stories about wild dogs in Japan. The anime is the adaptation of the manga and doesn't tell all the details that the manga does. In the manga the story continues with a feud between mysterious wolves with strange attacks and the pack of Ou.
In the anime, the story begins with Gin being born to Fuji. The legendary bear hound, Riki, is his father. At the same time the demonic bear, Akakabuto is wrecking havoc in the village. He attacks and kills humans. It takes alot to bring the bear down because he keeps growing in size from a damaged immune system.
Gin is brindle and legend has it, brindle dogs are the best to use for hunting. His destiny is to hunt bear and mainly Akakabuto. Gin receives training from Takeda Gohei at a young age and is pushed to his limits. He learns survivals kills and becomes strong. After the Akita becomes a year old he is drawn in by the essence coming from the wild dog pack near him. They have real fighting spirit which inspires him and they also want to take down the main target Akakabuto. The leader seems familiar to Gin, and Gin thinks it is his father who was thrown down the cliff by Akakabuto.
He travels with the pack across Japan in order to gather males for the leader. They need strong soldiers to defeat Akakabuto and his allies who are building the castle, Gajou in the twin pass of Ou. Thanks to Gin's training with Takeda Gohei and Daisuke he is able to keep up with the wild dogs. Gin and the pack meet many dogs and fight to gain the much needed alliances. Gin grows and matures on this life changing journey. In the back of his mind he remembers the leader and is convinced he is his father.
