Weed Gaiden © Ginga

Weed Gaiden is an one-volume manga containing four short stories. There are two standalone stories, a story about Mel from ginga Densetsu Weed and a personal story about Yoshihiro Takahashi's pet wolfdog.

The manga was released in 2001 and was re-released in 2008 along with the second edition of Ginga Densetsu Weed.

Mel's Trip

Dog

Unlike in the anime, afrer Blue's death Mel stay with his mother Lenny untill she dies from an ilness.

The story begins when Mel is an orphan and he wanders alone in a city. He meets a kind female dog named Yody who offers him some food.

Later that day Yody's familly is going for a trip, but on their way they are attacked by two fugitives. Yody is trying to protect her familly, but one of the men hits her on the head with a wench. Mel noticed the event but it was too late and fugitives had taken Yody's familly away. Yody asks Mel to find the dalmatian named Louis. Yody and Louis are a part of a dog organization called "Seigi" who are helping humans in need. Mel finds Louis. Some of the dogs take care of wounded Yody and Mel and the rest of Seigi are off to rescue Yody's owners.

Lonely Ron

Yody

Lonely Ron is a story of a kind but very cowardly Great Dane named Ron. He is kept in too small yard and is never taken out for a walk. When the hurricane breaks the fence Ron escapes to the wild. He wanders off to a ruined house where he meets a wounded kai ken named Bull. Ron helps Bull as he heals from wounds from being attacked by a dog pack. Soon the dogs who attacked Bull appear again. Bull is still too weak to fight and Ron is terrified by the enemies, but he eventually finds his inner strengt and courage to defeat the enemies and protect his friend.

The adventures of Ron and Bull are continued in Shin Gaiden vol. 2

Shion's Hurricane

Ron

Shion's Hurricane is a story of friendhip between a boy and a stray puppy. One day a stray dog is hit by a car. Kenta, the boy whose familly's car hit the dog befriends with the puppy and names him Shion. He visits Shion and his mother Kinumaru, brings them food and plays with them. Kenta's every day in shool is ruined by bullies, who one day appear at Shion's place with a dagerous dog to attack them. Kenta stands up for himseld and Shion and together they beat the bullies.

One day Shion's mother dies from ilnessa dn Kenta's mother dies from cancer. After his mother's death Kenta moved away with his father and brother and him and Shion never see each other again.

Hanako

Mel

Hanako is a story about Yoshihiro Takahashi's own pet, starring the author himself. Yoshihiro recieved Hanako from her previous owner when he was on vacation in America. As a wolf hybrid, Hanako was a disobedient dog who often ran away. At the old age Hanako get an uterus infection, but her owner never took her to the vet because he knew she was terrified of them. He changes his mind when her condition kept getting worse, but the operation was too much for her old organism and she died shortly after.
