New Disney CGI style - Raiponce | Tweet |
Meanwhile the 2D feature The Princess & The Frog is having a bad time at the box office, Disney is showing the first official screenshot of Raiponce (slated for release late 2010)

My opinion? I like the style : it's much nicer than anything I have seen being created with computers, especially the characters. They made a great work on the eyes, so that they are very expressive, almost as much as if they were hand drawn.
Of course I don't think the style will affect anything on the animation side, and it still keeps the "roundish / Pixarish" style that I don't like, but it's still a step in the right direction.
With hand-drawn animation being at the end of the road (at least in theaters), maybe there will still be a way to see the "traditional" style through CGI...

Well it looks like a cool film, I'd rather watch Rapunzel than
Princess And The Frog because Rapunzel has always been something I
liked since I was little. It'll be better than the Barbie version
anyway. LOL! |

I wouldn't count on that, the films you're stating are made by three
different companies, and none of them was made by Disney. (and these
companies have abandoned traditional anim) Besides Disney seems more interesting in stories with humans, currently. (which is a mistake, IMO - animals are more suited for hand drawn anim than CGI) |

Looks like Disney is officially back to animated movies. Who knows?
Maybe there will be some movies like ADGTH or Spirit? Or maybe even
Balto? |
