Ice Age is a series of films that stands out through its competition. Indeed, each film is rich with at least two or three references to other major known films.
In the first Ice Age film, there are known to be two references to Star Trek. The first was when Sid passes a flying saucer trapped in ice (what we say big time error!), and the second when Roshan greets how to Spock would. Ironic, considering that Blue Sky previously worked on the visual effects for Star Trek: Insurrection.
Another reference in the same scene is a nod to the Darwin’s evolution chain when Sid encounters frozen ancestors.
Finally, in the same passage of underground ice, you can see a wink to James Cameron’s Titanic (another Fox movie) when Sid grabs Manny’s trunk to warn him:
“Captain, iceberg ahead!”
