There is one article on this site with the word "Titanic" in it's title, but mine has a completely different purpose. While watching "LATT2: Scamp's Adventure" one day, something peculiar caught my eye in the scene when Scamp is taking a bath. See it yourself as I'm posting a screenshot:

According to this we are running in conclusion that the events of the "Scamp's Adventure" are probably heading back in July of 1912, a few months after the death of the great liner Titanic.
Don't you just love those historical references in the animated films? =p
Thanks for reading!

History Win. I love it when they throw those little details in to keep viewers coming back and reward the ones who really pay attention. |

On wikipedia it says that LATT2 takes place in 1911. But wiki is
sometimes wrong. |

Who doesn't love the historical refrences before reading this, I knew the movie was set during this late 1900s early 1910s period judging by the furniture, housing, clothing, automobiles, etc. my conclusion was the movie was set in 1913, because I saw the dog cather's car, and it was a 1913 model (I'm pretty sure, correct me if I was wrong), and I saw no headlines, or hear any backround conversations about the war in Europe, since from 1914 that was the talk of the world. So it had to be before the Great War. Either that was an old newspaper lying around (I know I have many of them) or I was pretty darn close. Good eye; I remember seeing that now, but never crossed my mind about a clue to when the movie took place. |

Theirs more hints then one would think. RMS Titanic also makes a
second cameo in Scamp's Adventure. The same newspaper is seen during
the scene at the very end, where Jim Dear is given a disgruntled Scamp
a Bath, right before the "camera" Zooms out the window reviling the
other Junkyard dogs gaining families. In that scene we also glimpse a
2nd page showing the famous Iceberg photo taken from the Carpathia Interesting this is also a bit of a goof! That perticuler photo of the Titanic didn't surface until the 1930s! It was apart of the O-Dell album, taken in 1912, but no shown outside the family until the early 1930s! Other historical nods include the Union and Confederate veterans having their photo ruined by Scamp in the beginning (note the rebs looking disgruntled while the Yankees look pleased!) Dispite the passing of the US civil war well over 20 years ago by "Scamp's Adventure"'s time, its an interesting political nod to the times that the movie is set in. The Railroad equipment in the yard also speak to late 1890s-1900s. The Locomotive chasing Scamp and Angel looking exactly like that of an 1890s Rogers product. overall a good catch. |

Right now they're posted on my Balto Source fan fic gallery. I've
been meaning to post them on LATTS. Just haven't gotten around to it
yet. |

Jersey, perhaps you are right. I can see your point. Perhaps there are more hints in the movie that nobody noticed yet? Still it's really interesting to look at these things. I definitely have to look out for your Balto/LATT fanfics, the idea of those dogs living pretty close in time with each other never really occurred to me, to tell the truth! |

That's been a source of speculation because of the Balto/Lady and the
Tramp crossover fictions I did. One person said that this scene
suggests that the L&T movies were set in the mid 1910s. Perhaps. Or,
as I and a few others countered, it's just as probable that the
newspaper seen in this image was part of a stack of old newspapers the
family kept for just such an occasion: washing the dogs and pups. I
mean, it's nice to speculate, but since there is no opening title to
indicate the date the movies are set in (unlike in Balto 3: Wings of
Change), we must therefore understand that it is left open to
individual interpretation--especially since the newspaper shown above
only appears for a brief moment...barely a second, and would escape
the notice of most people watching the movie. |
