Personality: Matumaini is often seen, from the outside, as a rather reserved lioness, and rarely talks to anyone else in her pride. She isn't the friendliest lioness around, and is more likely to ignore you or snap at you than learn your name. As a cub, she tended to be grumpy, and fought constantly with her father to a point where he would yell at her and ignore her for days. After a couple of years, she learned to keep her mouth shut, and constantly remained as the observed, yet nosey young lioness. However, around Tufani, she's not afraid to crack jokes and sarcastic comments right and left. In fact, she's always in her happiest mood when with her one and only friend, and over the years has become protective over her because of her father's anger towards her friend. She used to be rather hot-headed, and always willing to speak out against anyone. But, as time went by, she became more reserved, but still retains her curious attitude, and is slowly becoming her old self again around Tufani.

History: Matumaini was born to a huntress and the Top General of the pride. She was originally born into a litter of four, however one of the cubs was still born, and the other two died soon after from a sickness that swept the camp. Due to the loss of most of the cubs, the General looked to his last cub for hope, and when she took her first steps, was given the name Matumaini. Growing up, her father expected a lot from her, being his only cub at the time, and when she was old enough to speak and walk, he began to train her. At first, training seemed easy, but it quickly got almost too hard to bear. She constantly spoke out about it being too hard, however her father quickly yelled at her, and grounded her for her actions. It was after a particularly bad fight with her father where she excluded herself from their pride, and met Tufani, another cub of the pride. It wasn't long before the two became best friends, and did practically everything together.

However, when Tufani left unexpectedly, Matumaini was heartbroken. She had been abandoned by her only friend, and after that, life seemed to get worse. Her caring mother had faltered during a hunt, and had taken a bad blow to the head, which soon killed her. So, she was left in the hands of her father, who distraught after her mother died, took his anger out on Matumaini in her training, since nothing seemed perfect enough for him. As she continued to speak out against him, he one day struck her, rendering her speechless. Her father had never hit her before, and after that, she became subdued. She was forced into the studies of a huntress, and spent most of her time training, as she didn't want her father to hurt her again. The other lionesses refused to make friends with her, some because she was the Top General's daughter and they didn't want to get in trouble, but most of them stayed away because of her lost, forlorn personality.

It was only at the age of an adult when she was enjoying a sunset that she encountered a familiar looking lioness. She soon realized it was Tufani, and reacted rather excitedly that her best friend had come back. After talking, Tufani explained why she left, and apologized for her actions. As the two quickly went back to their best friend status, Tufani asked Matumaini to leave the pride. Without hesitation, Matumaini agreed, and that night, she made her escape. She felt so happy to be back with her friend, and she felt as though she had been freed from her horrible life within the pride. As the two began to travel, Tufani often told her of the stories of Simba, Nala, Kiara, and other lions that lived at a place called Priderock. Though it sounded nice, neither of the lionesses wished to live there, and preferred to remain travelers for the time being.
