Name: Sabu
Age: Varies
Gender: Male
Parents: Unkown
Siblings: None
Crush/mate: Open
Cubs: Joseph and Vanessa
Personality: Sabu is a shy lion that can easily be reduced to tears. He is emotional, sensitive and is an easy push-over. Sabu hates having to voice his opinions and usually goes along with what other people say. He never stands up for himself and is much more a follower than a leader. This is because of his past. Sabu is too afraid of getting hurt, so tends to lie low in the shadows. Sabu struggles to make friends but the friends he does have he is very loyal to. He is also a truthful lion that likes to tell the truth, although he usually just doesn't speak.
Likes: Peace, being alone, being part of the croud, others not paying much attention to him
Dislikes: Loud noises, having to speak his thoughts, being put in the spotlight
History: Sabu was born to two rouge lions. They didn't wander around, they lived in one spot, but his mother nearly died giving birth to him. After three days, his mother was still recovering from birth and was very weak. Then a rouge lion came and attacked her. The two parents managed to hide with their cub but the lion was closing in. Sabu's mother passed his father the cub. "Go. Hide him. He must live." She croaked, smiling. Sabu's father raced off and hid the cub in a log. He then raced back to his mate but she was already dead. Then the rouge lion came and killed him. But he could not find the cub. So he left.
A young lioness was taking a walk when she heard a mewing. She looked for it and eventually found poor Sabu in a log, mewing pitifully. The lioness picked him up and took him back home. Dosens of little cubs were playing and laughing. The lioness ran a kind of care home for orphan cubs with her friends (a bit like a Home for humans) so she knew where to take care of him. She brought Sabu to her best friends in a den with smaller cubs with them. She gave Sabu to one of them and told her to look after the cub until he was on solids. The lioness then found both of his parents, dead. But she could almost hear a voice, as if it was his parents, telling her, "Name our cub Sabu..."
The lioness walked back to the care home for cubs. She found Sabu suckling her friend desperately. The poor cub was dehydrated and starving. "What shall we call him?" The lioness asked. "We will call him Sabu." The lioness who found him replied.
Time passed for young Sabu, bun unfortunately he was born with a lame leg and wasn't as fast as the other cubs. They sometimes teased him so Sabu just stayed in a corner often and watched the other cubs. He hated having to talk to some of the cubs but sometimes they were really nice to him. These were his friends. He had about ten of them
But then one day when he was out on a walk a rouge lion attacked him. Sabu screamed and ran away and hid in a bush, but was found. The rouge rakes his claws down Sabu's face and he screamed. He hid in the log where he had been found but was found by the lion again. But just as he was reaching in to take Sabu the lioness that found him, Linda, attacked the rouge. Sabu ran home as fast as he could with his lame leg, but when the lion had scratched his face his right eye had black dots beginning to appear on it. The medicine lion did everything she could, but Sabu lost his sight and became blind in his right eye. His eye also had a bit scar on it, and most of his friends laughed at him. Sabu only kept about three or four friends. So he often hid in the darkness of the cave with the little cubs that were too young to understand. No matter how much they tried he wouldn't come out. "They'll only gang up on me." He always said. Sabu also noticed that sometimes lions and lionesses came and took cubs away to look after. Sometimes he went outside to meet them, even though others teased him. But most of the time he stayed inside. Sometimes a lion or lioness came to look at the young cubs that weren't on solids but when they looked at Sabu they turned away and chose another cub. Sabu felt unloved and alone.
But one day all the lionesses took even the youngest cubs outside. Everyone was lined up excitedly. Everyone but Sabu. Finally Linda came in. "Come on out, Sabu, there is this really nice couple outside that want to see everyone." She told him. Sabu ignored her. Linda sighed. "Please, Sabu." "WHAT'S THE POINT? THEY WILL TAKE ONE LOOK AT ME AND TURN AWAY!" Sabu suddenly yelled. He hated voicing his opinion but he didn't think he could bear the disappointment again. "But I promise you, Sabu, these two are special lions. They like cubs like you." Linda begged. Sabu sighed and got up. He sat nest to a lion cub on the end. "Watch it, Scar Face." He hissed. There was a golden-ish lion at the front with a brown mane and green eyes. Next to him stood a brown lioness. The golden-ish lion looked at the cub that had insulted Sabu. "Don't call him names. What has he ever done to you?" He said. The cubs all gasped. Then the lion continued. "Hello, everyone. I'm Pudsey, and this is my mate, Blush. We are here from the Cubs In Need charity foundation. And we would like to take one of you lucky cubs out on a tour of the further outside world." The lion said. All the cubs started squeaking and begging to be taken. Everyone but Sabu. what would be the point? But then Blush nudged Sabu. "What about this one, Pudsey?" She asked. Pudsey looked at Sabu and nodded. He sat in front of him "What's your name?" He asked gently. Linda stood behind him. "This is Sabu." She said. "I'm afraid to say that he is lame and blind in one eye..." Pudsey nodded. "Sabu, would you like to come with us on a tour?" He asked. Sabu nodded timidly. “Unfair!” All the cubs howled. “Please, Pudsey, take one of us! He's just gonna slow you down!” Pudsey looked at them. “I like working with the underprivileged. I want to give the disabled cubs a chance to see how great their life really is.” And with that Pudsey began to walk away. Sabu limped rapidly after him.
Sabu was taken on the best tour of his life. Pudsey and Blush were brilliant. And then Sabu saw a place that really caught his eye. A place called the pridelands. There weren't as many cubs there, but that suited Sabu just fine. He was happy with that. But then he saw a cub. Sabu waited for the insults about being blind and lame. But instead the cub patted him on the back. “Hey, are you OK?” He asked. Sabu shook his head. The cub saw Pudsey and Blush. “Oh, I get it, disabled, huh?” The cub asked. Sabu nodded sadly. “Well, hey, it's OK. I'm kinda disabled, I have trouble understanding things and I'm deaf in one ear.” He smiled. Sabu perked up when he heard that. “I also have a twin, she's also deaf in one ear. What's you're name?” The cub asked. “I'm Sabu. My parents died when I was little, and I live in a care home for cubs.” Sabu explained. “Awesome. I'm Tony, and my sister is called Julia. Sorry to hear about you're parents.” Tony said. “It's OK.” Sabu smiled. Pudsey let them go play, and the two new best friends chased each other around the pridelands. Then Sabu met Julia, and befriended her. Sabu loved the fact that he had new friends, and even met their parents. But all too soon, he had to go back to the care home, so said goodbye to them and arrived back home.
At once everyone was crowding around him, asking what it was like. Sabu told them about how beautiful the scenery was and how exciting it was, and even told them about his new friends. Some of the cubs laughed at him but then the others scowled at them. Sabu bounded into the den, for the first time ever, really happy. He hadn't been teased! But, oh, if only he could see them again!
A week after his tour, Some of the cubs were back to teasing him, and Sabu only missed his friends more and more. But one day, Linda came in. “Someone wants to see you, Sabu.” She said gently. Sabu padded out of the den to find Tony and his mother! “That's Sabu, mum, you remember him!” Tony said, pointing to Sabu. Sabu rushed to greet his friend and Tony high-pawed him. “How are ya, best buddy forever?” Tony smiled. Sabu heard some of the cubs whispering, “So he didn't make it all up.” but didn't care. “Tony! Why are you here?” He asked. One of the cubs snorted. “Obviously he came to adopt one of us. It's not you he wants to see. I bet you bribed him to pretend to be your friend!” He laughed. Sabu put his ears down. Tony ran up to the cub and growled in his face. “If you open your mouth again, I swear, I'll scar you physically and mentally.” He snarled. “Don't you DARE insult my best friend!” Julia peaked out. The cub's eyes fell on her. He tried flirt with her but she growled. “You're just jealous of Sabu because he has a real best friend and you have irritating followers that only pretend to be your friend because they don't want you to insult them. Sabu will achieve more than you, even if he is disabled.” She growled. All the other cubs laughed at the cub who had insulted Sabu. “Sabu, we have come to adopt you!” Tony said brightly, turning to Sabu, grinning his wild grin. “We've missed you not being around to play with.” Sabu gasped. He couldn't believe it. “S-someone wants to adopt me?” He gasped. Tony nodded. Sabu flew himself onto his best friend and hugged him tight. He felt wanted, loved. It was the happiest day of his life, knowing that he was going home with his friend and finally escaping that torture.
Sabu was delighted to be back in the pridelands. He ran around with his friends, laughing, smiling, and always cheerful, unlike when he was in the care home for cubs. He secretly hoped that all of them went to a good home, even the ones that teased him and bullied him. Because he was ready to forgive them.
As Sabu grew older he found himself falling in love with Julia. He knew that she was a princess and shouldn't love her, but he couldn't help it. He loved her so much.
Sabu was a month away from being an adult, just like Julia. One day she turned to him and confessed that she loved him even though he would probably never feel the same way. “I love you too, Julia.” He purred as he nuzzled her. Neither wanted to rush anything so only went out together. But then when they were adults the two became mates. Tony congratulated the two, and Sabu was really happy.
But one day when he went over to Julia she seemed really upset. “Sabu, we can't be together anymore.” She whispered. Sabu's heart broke. “But, I thought you loved me.” He whimpered. “I do!” Julia exclaimed. “But, my mum has betrothed me to someone else. I don't want to be with him but if I don't, war will be with my pride and his. I can't let that happen, this is my duty. But I still love you.” Sabu put his ears down. “Oh, OK, I understand.” He sighed and turned around to walk away. “Wait!” Julia cried. Sabu looked at her. She nuzzled him. “Please, Sabu. Please forgive me.” She whispered. Inside Sabu's head he was screaming, Why should I? But didn't say this. But Julia seemed to ready his mind. “Please, you have to forgive me. I'm pregnant, Savu.” She whispered. “And they are your cubs.” Savu stood, shocked for a moment. “Does your mother know?” He asked. Julia shook her head. “No, but I plan on telling her, and my father, and Tony. But not this new mate.” She explained. “Savu, if they look like you, please take them in.” Savu nodded. “I promise.”
Sabu was heart-broken. He had lost his mate all because of her betrothed. He didn't blame Julia. Or her family. But he hated this lion, whoever he was, for stealing her from him. He heard that the lion was really nice to her, which was good otherwise Sabu would have been furious, but he still didn't like this lion. Sabu also had another problem. He didn't know anything about being a father. Finally the big day arrived, and Sabu was really nervous. Julia's mate was out somewhere, but what if Julia never made it? It would kill Sabu to lose her. All the time when he had been crying on Tony's shoulder when he lost her made him even more anxious. Finally he was called into the den. There lay two beautiful cubs in Julia's arms. One looking like him, the other like her mother. “Do you have any names for them?” Julia purred. Sabu thought hard then finally knew the perfect names. “Joseph and Vanessa.” He said. “Perfect.” Julia purred. Sabu took Joseph home with him and Toby congratulated him about being a father. Sabu loved his son and loved his daughter and still loved Julia but he gave up searching for a mate. But then he met someone that would change his life forever...
