Sugar Cookie mysteriously showed up in Ponyville with her pig, Truffles, one day after purchasing a cottage without the knowledge of the residents. Although, Mayor Mare was very much aware of her presence even before she moved. Sugar Cookie made herself known when she was hired at Sugarcube Corner. The goods she baked were overwhelmingly delicious, in turn, business at the store grow tremendously. However, Pinkie Pie, a long-time employee, was quite jealous of how popular Sugar Cookie had gotten. 

One day, while Sugar Cookie was waiting for a batch of cookies to cool off, Pinkie Pie snuck in and sprinkles salt on the cookies. When Sugar served the cookies to her patrons, they were displeased. Fortunately, Sugar Cookie had a spare batch waiting, which only ticked Pinkie off more.

Pinkie pulled Sugar aside, rather aggressively, and told her to stay out of her kitchen. Mrs. Cake overheard Pinkie and pulled her away, telling Pinkie that what she did wouldn't be had at. In a rage, Pinkie locked herself in her room. Sugar, feeling bad for her, tried to approach her the next day. Pinkie was reluctant to speak with her, but allowed Sugar to tell her side of the story.

It turned out that Sugar was raised in a very scholarly-like household full of chefs. In turn, Sugar Cookie was raised to be the sweet-tooth baker of the family. She baked cookies and all sorts of sweets until she left the household. Still wanting to pursue her baking talent, she dyed her mane a pastel rainbow color, but not her tail for some reason or another, and she moved to Ponyville. Although it wasn't boring like Pinkie's family had been, Pinkie couldn't imagine being in a household full of strict ponies who only wanted to cook and bake.

She understood now. The ridiculous baking talent and the rainbow hair, and even her pig! After that day, Pinkie visited Sugar's cottage after hours, often having baking contests with her. Of course, the extra sweets would be sent to Sugarcube Corner the next day, for any patrons with a sweet-tooth to devour.
