Eduardo Perez is the owner of "Salsa y Salsa" Mexican restaurant on the upper level of the the Paradise Mall. He is a short, overweight Hispanic man with neatly-groomed black hair (and a receding hairline) reaching almost to his shoulders, and a short black goatee. Eduardo wears a red silk shirt, black pants and boots and, around his neck, a gold chain with a letter "E" encircled by a thin gold band (which, when turned sideways, becomes El Macho's "M"). His young son, Antonio, is a frequent visitor to the restaurant, and often hangs around there when he isn't being a mallrat. Eduardo also keeps his pet chicken, Pollito, as a mascot in the restaurant...and also as a security measure (Pollito is one tough chicken)!
However, Eduardo hides a dark secret: he is actually El Macho, one of the world's greatest former supervillains. After a string of daring crimes, he decided to go out in blaze of glory "in the most macho way possible", dropping into the mouth of a volcano, from an airplane, riding a huge live shark strapped with 250 pounds of dynamite. Thus, Eduardo put his El Macho alter ego into quiet retirement, and settled into the apparently innocent life of a restauranteur. But in truth, he was merely biding his time, preparing to pull off his own crime of the century (and even hoping to enlist Gru's help)! He even managed to temporarily win over Gru's henchman Dr. Nefario, who assisted him in stealing the dangerous PX-41 serum, and turning all of Gru's minions into hideous, indestructible purple monstrosities! In the end, however, Dr. Nefario's loyalty to Gru won over, and he restored all of the minions (except at least one, who apparently slipped through the cracks) with an antidote of his own design.
Eduardo, returning as El Macho, does not have the super-macho physique and style he used to have, but his secret lair, contained within the lower levels of his sprawling private estate, is impressive, with a secret entrance requiring one to get past a musical step-tile puzzle (with dangerous weapon traps for those who make any mistakes). The lair is designed in an imposing manner, to evoke the stylized architecture and art of the ancient Aztec civilization of central Mexico.
