Hey everyone! Got some great new fan news for those of you who love the Despicable Me movies, and the latest Minions movie...or who are curious about them! Lots of great little gems to talk about here! XD
We've uploaded a lot of fresh new material to the source, pertaining to the Minions movie (beyond what has already been placed there initially, like the basic information on the movie itself and about the soundtrack), which should whet your whistle if you've thought about seeing this latest hilarious chapter in the on-going Despicable Me storyline! Let me break it down for you...
We've finally uploaded a ton of screen shots, and there's plenty enough to give you a pretty good look at the movie! We know you've been awaiting these with baited breath!
Of course, the information about the DVD and Blu-Ray can be found here. If you've been in stores in the last month or so, you'll have noticed by now that there are several different packaged versions of the covers for the DVD and the Blu-Ray, including one we talked about in the last fan news on Despicable Me Source.
Of course, with the DVD and Blu-Ray packs also come three new mini-movies, and we have a whole section devoted to those, including some screen shots!
From the official Illumination Entertainment company page on YouTube, several new video clips have been added to our site, to augment what has already been uploaded. Be sure to stop by and have a look--lots of great production bonus material there!
Just as with the previous movies in the continuing storyline, as well as with any other movie or television series featured on Animation Source, we also made sure to provide you with plenty of official character bio pages. The master page summarizes them, but you'll find each new character there, including Scarlet Overkill, Herb Overkill, Walter Nelson, Madge Nelson, Walter Nelson Jr., Tina Nelson, Binky Nelson, Queen Elizabeth II, The Tower Guard, Norbert, Fabrice, Professor Flux, Dumo The Sumo and, of course, Frankie Fish Lips. Of course, you'll also find that we have updated the character pages for Gru, Kevin, Stuart and Bob (who's page has received more visits than any other character on the source, and more than many others elsewhere on Animation Source! Which really is amazing!).
For those of you interested in fan art, Mightybalto1925 has submitted a few really interesting pieces, including this latest one of the minion Stuart jamming on his electric guitar!
We've had a few members submit some really creative fan images as well--not only Mightybalto1925, but -Legolas10- and Senka! You should check these out when you have the opportunity. Of course, we're always happy to receive new fan submissions--be they art, images, music, videos and/or fictions!
Finally, it's pretty apparent that the Despicable Me movies, and the Minions movie, have some really good music in them...much of it original compositions by both composer Heitor Pereira and Pharrell Williams (and though Williams' work does not appear in Minions, he is slated to return for the next Despicable Me movie). Minions, being a period piece set primarily in the year 1968 (both in the U.S. cities of New York and Orlando, and in the British capitol of London), features several songs by original bands and artists of the time period (which can be found on the soundtrack).
This led, of course, to my desire to follow that concept right along with this forum topic, which talks about Billboard Magazine's year-end top 100 hits list for 1968...which has links to several great songs of the era. Please stop on by and have a look and a listen! And I'd love to have some participation in the topic from you guys!

No worries.  They provided subtitles. But the clip did come off
of the English (Region 1) DVD and Blu-Ray. Not sure why Guillon
didn't respond in English in the interview, but it's not a big deal.
It was still great to have him describe his role in it, even if one
had to read subtitles to achieve an understanding of what he was
saying. XD (For me, I took several years of French in high school,
but I'm rather rusty...I had classes in Japanese and Italian in
college, and didn't really keep up my practice in French after high
school. So while I can catch bits and pieces from listening, I am not
fluent by any stretch.) |

That's cool =D Not for you, but for french it is xD But that's strange
he doesn't speak english in this kind of job. I guess it was for the
french DVD "bonus" (same word?) =3 If you need help to understand what
is said, don't be afraid to ask ^-^ I'm glad you like that idea, and I hope it will work for you  I
never understand why english people didn't try what we're doing for 3
years now xD I guess you're not curious enough to look at french news
(especially because most people don't speak french, what I can
understand) x) But I don't really have more ideas for Minions Source,
and I already have the french side to "boost" with these games so I'm
sorry, but I won't help more than that x) |

Well, as to that video clip I mentioned, no (as to all the clips,
really)...the interview replies of Eric Guillon are in his own
language...French. Which I suspect is because he doesn't speak
English. Many of the production crew members and execs are from
Illumination MacGuff, which is based in Paris (and there are also
Spanish and American crew members...Illumination being headquartered
in the U.S.). But Guillon is one of your countrymen, as are Pierre
Coffin, Chris Renaud, and several others. As to your idea for increasing participation, that sounds like a very good one! I will have to talk this over with Mighty some more and, in the meantime, if you wish to PM us with some thoughts and ideas, or perhaps might be willing to connect on Skype to discuss it more via chat, I'd welcome that! The answers are in french? And you've translated the whole thing for
english people or there were subtitles? I'll take a look when I'll
have enough time for it =) By the way, if you want to make the site more active, can I suggest something? We (on the french side) often organize games on the news with a special theme. If you want to make the minions more popular, why don't you try to propose a kind of game where the Minions go on other sites to find a new bad guy to follow? People could draw a minion with Scar for example, or their favorite villain, and send the creations on both sites. At the end, you write a new with every creations that have been done. Of course, don't authorize only drawings, but also fics, videos, images, etc. As long as there's a minion. It's worth the try I think ^-^ I just suggest it like that - it takes time, but when people follow it's worth it ^-^ |

Merci, Nakou!  We have indeed worked hard to try and make Despicable Me Source a great place for the members, though we wish there could be more participation. We provided the material anyway, and will continue to do so (as there certainly is more to do, especially in fleshing out the "production" sections of each movie (most especially Minions). If you are interested, you should check out the one clip entitled "Bonus Behind-The-Scenes: Early Concept", which features an interview with Eric Guillon, the Art Director of the first Despicable Me movie, and one of the two Production Designers on Despicable Me 2. He was also one of the concept artists who laid out a lot of the original design work, and the look of the movies. And his responses are entirely in French, which should make for easier interpretation by yourself and any other French AS members who wish to have a look!

Thanks, Nakou! We've worked quite hard to make Minions Source what it
is. And we do hope that more people, other than ourselves, will
contribute to it! I couldn't imagine we're the only two who like the
Despicable Me films on AS. |

These are interesting news, I didn't know there were shorts about
Minions! You've made a great job on informations to make the site more
interesting, I hope people will read all these new informations and

I'd also like to add that I've been adding emoticons to the site. I've
had others on here in the past, but I've removed those since I really
didn't like them. These are MUCH better. I'll be adding others (maybe
I'll try to make some of other characters), but they aren't a
priority.    
There's another one, however the site seems to have a limit on how
many emoticons can be used in a row. I'm also working on the merchandise page, which can be found under the Despicable Me section. The only tab I have completed so far is the books section. I plan on working on the toys section today. |
