Over the Hedge characters

“We eat to live; These guys live to eat!”
- RJ

While searching for help to gather food, RJ the intelligent raccoon comes across a bunch of other forest animals who are in danger due to suburban development destroying their habitat. With his clever instincts, he is able to convince them that theres greatness beyond the separating hedge, but on the side is trying to pay back for Vincent’s food supply which he accidentally destroyed.

While described as duplicitous, selfish, greedy, and arrogant, he can also be nice, and has a likeable, yet sensitive personalty. Throughout the movie, he develops feelings of guilt for using others for his own needs, and will learn about the importance of family, and the help and caring for others in need.

“Whenever something doesn't feel right, my tail tingles. And let me tell you something, everything you've said so far is driving my tail crazy.”
- Verne

Verne is the “naturally tentative” leader of the foragers. By having his own ways of doing the daily tasks, he helps ensure that the others are safe and doing their jobs and will do anything to protect them. But this all changes when RJ steps in and introduces the others to the lifestyle of Suburbia.

While the others warm up to him, shellshocked Verne has his suspicions with RJ, and feels that the old ways are better, even with Suburbia threatening their natural food supply. Plus his tale tingles when he feels that something doesn’t seem right, and uses it as a signal to back off.

Hammy is extremely hyperactive to the max, up to the point where he can move at very fast speeds. Although Hammy is dim-witted, loud and has extremely short attention spans, he is a child-at-heart who can be naive, crazy, childish, innocent, and curious.

His love for cookies was introduced by RJ during a mission to obtain cookie boxes from girl scouts. But once you give him a sip of energy drink, things will become even more crazier!

His intelligence and instincts allow him to sense any nearby species in his surroundings, though he can often mistake plastic garden flamingos as real. Despite that, the Verminator commits seriously to his job, and will not tolerate any animals that stand in his way.

Voice actor : Thomas Haden Church

“Fine, you worry about your casserole, and I'll worry about the end of suburban peace and tranquility!”
- Gladys Sharp

As the president of the Camelot Estates Home Owners Association, Gladys Sharp commits to ensuring that each house in Suburbia follow the strict H.O.A rules. But with Tiger’s “beautiful” evolution erasing any sense of smell, danger may turn into romance between the two.
