Blu is a completely domesticated – and flightless – bird who has lived his entire life indoors. Blu and his owner (and best pal) Linda thinks he’s the last of his kind, but when they learn about another Macaw who lives in Rio de Janeiro, they head to the faraway and exotic land to find Jewel, Blu’s female counterpart. In his new world, Blue is totally lost until he meets new friends, finds his inner-hero, and figures out a way to return to the best friend a bird ever had.

Jewel is beautiful and fiercely independent female bird from the city of Rio. Even though she and Blu are both rare macaws, they’re complete opposite. But when they’re brought together, she and Blue find themselves on the adventure of a lifetime.

Linda is Blu’s best pal and owner. When a child, she discovered Blu within a small crate in her hometown in Minnesota where Blu and her began their journey. After years of bonding, she opened her own bookstore named Blu Macaw Books where her and her feathered friend lived their lives. When she found out that Blu was the last of his kind, she set out with a big expert and Blu to Rio de Janeiro to meet Blu’s new lover.

Native to Rio de Janerio, Tulio is a bird expert who's dream is to help parrots and other exotic birds from the torture of parrot smuggling. Once he found that the last male Blue Macaw was owned by a young girl named Linda, he set off to bring the two of them to Rio and help the Blue Macaw species.

Nico's best pal and Blu's new friend, Pedro is a kind bird with a big heart and a love for music. Throughout their journey Pedro sets the mood with his amazing beats and funky toons.

Nico is a small Rio bird with a big heart for music and dancing. Doing everything to the beat of music, him and his pal Pedro help Blu and Jewel out through their journey.
