Cedar features in the book ''Esperanza: Spirit of the West''. He is the lead stallion of a large herd, and allows the herd of a mare, Alma, to join up with his.
When Cedar's son, Strider, starts trying to help the herd by saving a filly from a snake, Cedar gets angry and it is assumed he will kick Strider from the herd.
After a storm occurs in the story, it is unknown what happens to Cedar.
