PERSONALITY

Duchess is very polite. She loves to please everyone. She is friendly but a bit shy. She is always calm no matter the circumstance. She can br bold at times and is very lively with her friends and family.

HISTORY

  Duchess was born in a cave during a winter storm. She and her mother joined the cimarron herd where she became best friends with the lead mare, Esperanza. Her mother died not long after they joined the herd. She lived there for many years giving birth to many of Striders foals. She dreamed of love and the perfect stallion for her. But one day Strider was captured by humans. Esperanza and Duchess where very sad and alone.

  A few weeks after Strider was taken another stallion showed up at the herd. His name was Sargent and he was Strider's half brother. Duchess thought he was very handsom but thought that out of a herd of beautiful mares what stallion would choose her. To her suprize Sargent took great interest in Duchess. They talked and grazzed together and made each other laugh. She knew she was in love with him and hoped Strider would be ok with it. Esperanza thought it was awesome. When Strider returned he had another mare with him but Duchess didn't find her to pleasant and didn't like that she was mean to Esperanza. She was most excited as Sargent went to talk to Strider. Unfortunatly as she watched from a distance she saw Strider chase away Sargent. Sad and confused she ran off crying. Later that night Sargent showed up with a plan. They would run away together.

  They ran all night and finally made it to a safe place in the woods miles away from Strider and the cimarron herd. They lived happily there for many months. Then Duchess' belly was swollen with Sargents foal. It was due in the middle of winter. She was so excited. But she also missed her friend Esperanza. They were  usually pregnant at the same times. 

  The foal came right after a winter strorm so she had a new fluffy layer of snow to lay on. Sargent kept watch as she gave birth. When the foal was out she called to Sargent who came running over to she his new baby girl. She was so beautiful. A mixture of both her mother and father. They named her Mapiya meaning 'sky'. But the happy moment didn't last. Duchess saw a pack of 5 wolves and screamed warning Sargent they were there. Sargent attacked the wolves knocking two down, but was knocked down himself. Duchess stode as the 3 other wolves turned to her and Mapiya. As the wolves jumped Duchess reared but there were to many and she was knocked sideways away for Mapiya. Two wolves had her corned while another approched Mapiya. As the wolves attacked her she screamed to Sargent to protect their baby. The last thing she heard was Sargent's scream and Mapiya's cry.

  As another year past the ghost of Duchess watched her baby grow up and her love grow older and weaker. He walked slowly into the woods and she followed. "Sargent" the ghost of Duchess called. He turned and ran to her. She missed him so much and guessed he missed her too. "Come with me my love" she wispered to him and they layed in the snow and Sargent past away to join Duchess in heaven.

RELATION TO SPIRIT

Was part of the cimarron herd for most of her life then moved near the indian village. She also knew Strider and Esperanza.
