Personality:

Kahlua is a sweet, happy-go-lucky mare with a positive outlook on life. She loves nothing better than skipping around in the sunshine, but she takes her responsibilities seriously and never shirks her duties to go off and play. She has incredible stamina and endurance, typical of her breed, and she’s nimble and light-footed in everything she does.

History:

Kahlua was born in Mexico and raised as a cowboy’s horse. When she was broken in she was taken across the border and sold in America, where her poor master could get more money for his horses. Criollos are agile, enduring and great cowponies, so she was readily bought by an American cowboy who wanted a good mount for ranch work. However, not long after she was bought her master was shot dead in an argument at the local tavern, and his killer took her for his own horse. In this way, Kahlua found herself the mount of a murderer and outlaw. He was pursued by the law until, eventually, he ran into the cavalry and was arrested. Kahlua was confiscated and taken to the army barracks, where they intended to turn her into a cavalry mount. However, they never got the chance.

The very next day a dunskin mustang was brought into the fort, fighting and struggling against his captors. The Colonel ordered him to be broken in, but no one could tame the wild stallion. Eventually he managed to break free, releasing a load of the army horses with him. Kahlua was among the liberated horses, and she revelled in her newfound freedom, happy to have escaped the humiliating initiation and branding that the other horses had gone through. She wandered freely, alone, until she came across a piebald stallion called Painting Freedom. Deciding that she’d quite like to be in a herd, she joined him.
