Relation To Spirit:  When Lyra joined Corin’s herd, she met Spirit considering the two herds were so close. Lyra was great friends with Esperenza, and when Lyra fell ill, Esperenza came and sat with her often, and the two of them would talk and laugh. They were best friends, and Lyra enjoyed watching her son play with foals in the other herd. His happiness made her happy.

History:

Lyra grew up in a large herd. Many of the horses in the herd were decedents of the lead stallion, for he was very strict on keeping bloodlines within the herd.  

Lyra grew up with little friends, for there weren’t many foals her age. However, she fell in love with a colt named Barq. Barq was a very friendly horse, and the two hit it off when they were each about 8.

Lyra loved the young horse, but the lead stallion didn’t care. One day, when Lyra was 9, the lead stallion came up to mate with her.

Lyra refused, biting and kicking at the horse. She insisted that her first foal be with Barq, the horse she loved. The lead stallion was furious, and chased Barq down.

Lyra cried, and tried to go after them but wasn’t fast enough. The lead stallion caught Barq, and beat him. Eventually Barq made a quick escape and fled, leaving Lyra behind.

The lead stallion re-approached Lyra, but she still refused. Growing irritated, he attacked her.

Lyra, recognizing what was happening, fled also. She bore many wounds, but didn’t care to stay.

The lead stallion chased her very far, but finally gave up and let her go.

Lyra wandered the lands for ages before she stumbled upon Corin’s herd. She was struck by his kindness, and joined his herd after some persuasion from the dark bay.

After a while, Corin’s sweetness won over her heart, and he gladly accepted her as his mate. She became lead mare, and was also very soon pregnant.

Corin one day introduced Lyra to Spirit, but she didn’t care much for the buckskin. She was more fond of the palomino mare who approached her after she met Spirit. She was Esperenza, and mother to the buckskin. They talked about foaling for ages, and became close friends.

When Lyra was ready to have her baby, Esperenza was right beside her. Luckily the two herds were close, and Spirit didn’t mind his mother having such close contact with another herd.

The labour was a tough one, and took her many hours. However, Lyra finally gave birth to her son, Tybalt.

Despite the happy moments, days after she gave birth she was overcome with sickness. Esperenza nursed Tybalt for her in her sickness.

Lyra was weary at first, but eventually grew to where she could barely walk.

Lyra hated being so ill, and wanted to be with her son, and her mate. However, she was very grateful for her friend, Esperenza, for taking care of her son in her absence.

One night, Lyra knew it would be her last. Her breath was shaky, and she laid back, watching her son and mate sleep.

Despite this, she was content that her last sights were that of whom she loved.

Lyra passed away that night.
