She was born on a sunny day, her father wasn’t here and her mother looked at the foal, hate in her eyes she snivelled at her mum as the mare shook her head. The mare led the filly to the field nearer to the cavalry “You stay here, Nika” she said “But mummy, can’t I come with you” said Nika, as her mother darted off leaving her alone. An hour later the little filly began to here hoof beats, she began to get scared the hoof beats came nearer and nearer the little filly looked up at a blue roan mare “Why you’re a lovely little girl aren’t you” said Embers “Where’s your mummy?” she asked “My mummy left me” snivelled Nika “Really?, where’s your daddy?” asked Embers “I don’t know” she said “What’s your name?” asked Embers “Mummy called me Nika” Nika said “What a lovely name, come with me” Embers said. Nika followed Embers in the cavalry gates, the cavalry was quiet today “Who are they?” asked Nika looking at Brace and Dice, the two horses had just made up from an argument they had “That’s my mate Brace” said Embers “The grey colt is my son his name’s, Dice” she added “Oh, can I go meet them?” asked Nika “Yes, go ahead, you know what give me a second, Nika” said Embers “Dice” she called Dice trotted over “Dice this is your new little sister, Nika” said Embers. After a week Embers began to realise that Nika had grey hairs sprinkled around her muzzled, the little filly trotted over to her mum “Thank you for bringing me here” said Nika “That’s alright love, how are liking it here?” she asked “It’s good, I like watching Dice practice he’s very nice as well, so is dad” Nika said “Nika, what colour was your mother?” asked Embers “She was white, but she said she was born black” said the little black filly “Your dad?” she asked “An albino, mum said” Nika continued “I think you’re going to turn white when you get older” said Embers “Dice and Dad both told me that” she said “Ok, well you’ll still be my lovely girl” she said.
