PERSONALITY

Sargent is a smart horse. He thinks before he acts. He also is very serious and can be mean. But most of the time he's a gentlemen and is very charming.

HISTORY

 Sargent was born into the same herd as Strider, they are half brothers with the same dad but different mom. Sargent was always a smart little foal and came up  with may great ideas , like games or ticks the foals could play on the other horses. One day a new filly was found with her mother and some other mares. Her name was Esperanza and she, Strider and Sargent became good friends. 

 When Sargent became a two year old he was captured by humans and taken to the cavalry base. He spent the next 3 years of his life captive in a stall, being ridden everyday with no freedom. He hatted it and tried to escape when ever posibble. One day he was sent to work with more people and trains. There he met Strider. Happy to see his brother they planed to escape. Unfortunatly Srider didn't get away but Sargent did. As he looked back at his brother who was being sorounded bt humans Strider yelled ''Go! Find my herd and protect them from other stallions! I'll get out another way!'' Sargent was forced to run and leave his brother behind.

 He searched for days to find the Cimarron herd and finally found it. The only way he knew it was the right herd was because he saw Esperanza. Strider had told him when they were colts that he likes Esperanza and would have her for his lead mare. The mares where overjoyed to have the protection of a stallion again even though it wasen't Strider. But they were all happy to hear that he had seen Strider.

  As he spent the next few days watching him brothers mares he looked for a mate. And one could his eye, a beautiful appaloosa mare. Her name was Duchess and she was a close friend of Esperanza. Esperanza introduced him to her and he knew he had fallen in love. As the days countinued he spent more and more time with Duchess. They were now very good friends and Sargent knew that when Strider returned he was going to ask for Duchess. 

 Strider returned about a month after Sargent had found the cimarron herd. He had brought another mare from the cavalry, Jessica. He waited until everyone was finished talking to Strider to ask him about Duchess. He expected Strider to say yes and be very happy for him but instead a look of confusion apeared on Striders face. ''You want Duchess!?'' ''Yes'' Sargent said. ''NO!'' Strider said flatening his ears. ''Why not!'' Sargent growled flatening his ears. ''Because all my mares belong to me!'' Sargent stamped his hoof ''Thats not fair!" Strider chesed Sargent away and he had no chose but to leave. But he wouldn't give up.

  The next night Sargent sneaked into the herd to where Duchess sleped. He told her about the conversation he had had with Strider. She was sad that Sargent and her couldn't be together. But Sargent had already thought of an idea. They would run away together. They sliped out without anyone seeing them and began to run. They stopped miles away from the cimarron herd in some woods.

  As winter approched Duchesses belly swelled with Sargents foal. They had settled in the woods (near the india village) and hadn't any trouble with humans, predators and hadn't been found be Strider. Everything had been going smoothly until Duchess had the foal. It was just after a winter storm so the ground was covered in snow. Duchess lay down while Sargent kept watch. He was on gaurd until Duchess yelled to him he galloped to her side to find a little filly laying next to her. She was so beautiful and had the spots of her mother but the her coat was lighter like her father. She also had the brown eyes of both her parents. Duchess wanted to call her Mapiya meaning 'sky'. Sargent thought it was perfect so Mapiya it was.

  This was all perfect excep Sargent hadn't been watch and a pack of wolves had approched the 3 horses. It was Duchess scream that alerted Sargent. He turned just in time to jump out of the way as a wolf jumped at him. He stode his ground. He would not let these wolves get to his girls. The wolves jumped again but this time the two wolves knocked Sargent over. His vision was blured for a second the it cleared and he see the wolves cornering Duchess and Mapiya. ''NO!" Sargent yelled. But Duchess stood her ground protecting her baby. The wolves knocked her away from Mapiya. Sargent got up even though he was in pain. He heard Duchess' scream to protect mapiya and then she screams stopped. He chased the wolves away from Mapiya who, look scared and, ran to Duchess' side. Sargent chased the other wolves away before galloping back to Duchess and Mapiya. He slowly aproched the motoinless mare. "Duchess?" Sargent saed softly as tears filled his eyes. "Duchess NO!" He screamed as the tears slid down his face. He lay next to his dead mare and little filly. Mapiya didn't seem to understand. She nuzzled her mother waiting for her to get to her feet and feed her. But she didn't understand that her mother would never get up or feed her, or confert her ever agian.

  What seemed likes years later Sargent woke up, hoping it was all a dream. That Duchess was still alive and hadn't had the foal and everything was a dream. But as he looked around he knew it was true. That she was gone... forever. Just as he looked at the sleeping Mapiya, who must be very hungry, he heard sonething. He stood up slowly and saw a little india boy on a horse. He stared for a minute then tured his horse and troted away. Sargent watched in amazment as the boy returned with more humans on horses. they approched solwly. Sargent stode and snoted at them flatening his ears, warning them not to come any closer. But they came closer anyway talking softly to him. "Its ok" "No one is going to hurt you" Sargent half jumped at them. They back away but one of the mares they had ridden came up to him. "Shes hungry" she say softly nodding at Mapiya who was hidding behind him. Sargent looked down at the little scared foal. "Let her come with us" "We'll take care of her" Sargent didn't want them to have her but he couldn't take care of a new born by himself. "Are you sure she will be taken care of?" "Yes" Sargent slowly let the mare lead Mapiya back to the others. the humans approched again this time the mare nodded and sargent steped away from Duchess. The humans slowly buried her with snow. then backaway. Sargent stared at the pile of snow and then at Mapiya.The tears came and he couldn't stop them. The mare smiled simpatheticly and then they all turned and walked away.

  As the year past Sargent watched Mapiya grow up in the distance, with humans. He hatted it but there was no other way. She would come and vists him on the hill everyday. It wasnt't much but it was something. It was a year since the attack and Mapiya would be a yearling. But he grew olded and more alone everyday. He was also very thin from lack of food. He just didn't have the will to live anymore. He walked through the woods and memorys popped out at him. It was so painfull. As he walked he heard someone calling to him. He turned and saw DUCHESS! He ran to her and tried to tuch her face but realized it was her ghost. "Sargent" she said softly "Sargent my love" "Duchess" He said back "Duchess I miss you SO much." "I know, I miss you too." They stood in silence for a few minutes then Duchesses ghost said "Come with me." Sargent smiled weakly. They lay in the snow and as Sargent slowly closed his eyes he past away. His body was slowly covered with snow as he returned to heaven with his love.

He is Striders half brother, he was also captive in the cavalry for many years, and also lives around the indian village near the end of his life
