Vanity was born and raised in the calvary. She was raised to hate the stallion Spirit which the horse her father hated. Her father made her work from morning light to night by hating the stallion. She was put to work at the age of 1 and had to carry many heavy weapons. When her rider and others were on a walk. She saw the stallion, but she didn't want to attack. Her father nipped at her to charge at the stallion, but she rufused and bit her father. The general wanted to kil Vanity for hurting Granit and  sentenced her to death, but her father attacked the General and told her to run and never come back so that's what she did. She met the stallion Spirit, and he offered her a home in his herd, and she became best friends with his sister and daughter. She later fell in love with a black stallion, and days later they became mates.

relation to spirit-She was forced to hate him, but she now lives in his herd and is treated as a family member
