How do you make backgrounds to go with your pictures? Do you piece different pictures together or something?

Something along those lines, yes

With MSPaint users they have a pure white background and have "Transparent Selection" around their character before putting it on the background

With Photoshop/Gimp/PTSai users they make sure the area around the character is transparent before they put their characters onto the background.

This is as simply as I could describe it, I hope it's at least a little bit helpful. And I hope this is what you meant. You seem to have fine backgrounds on your images o-o

Though if you did mean how do you piece backgrounds it's usually the use of Photoshop, Gimp or PTSai, a few tools and the blurr feature.
