I was wondering: Was the movie "Spirit the Stallion of the Cimarron" based on the book series or the books are inspired by the movie?

they are from the same time, the books came out a few months before the movie, but would have been done to tie into the movie

Well I bought the book because I wanted to see if it was different
from the movie in anyway. I read it so far and it was basically the
movie but in text form. The book says it's the author's text though. |
