Balto is really part wolf!
I was reading an artical , and I herd Balto is really part wolf.
Balto_claw : When I was reading a artical I read that Balto is really not all Siberian husky! Balto is really part wolf too! But I think it is really cool that Balto is really part wolf but you can tell that he is part wolf. Cause one time I looked at a picture of him and you can tell that he is part wolf. suprising isin it!
The ways you can tell Balto is part wolf.
1. Balto has big paws, I relized.
2. His eyes look wolfish.
3.He is big in size. Bigger than a husky should be.
4.Balto is overly flufy.
So I bet that tells ya that he is really part wolf! I mean it really is shocking. So part of the movie is really true. Balto is part wolf part husky. But maby thats why Balto's puppy hood is unkown.cause he was born a wild animal. And when he was old enoughf to leave his mother he leaved his mother and was in the wild for awhile. and one day he could of waled his way to nome. well it could of happend.

Good article, yes. But I really cannot agree with you on this. Most
facts in different articles around the web state that he is pure
Siberian Husky, and most of us know this. Husky's paws are fairly
large (Unlike Jenna in Balto 1, her paws were unimaginably small for a
husky). Huskies are also very fluffy. His eyes are similar to a wolf's
because Husky's eyes are similar to a wolf's. Huskies can sometimes
look like wolves, and people often mistake huskies for wolves. The
clever ones of us though know the difference. People mistake my husky
for all sorts, including foxes, Greenland Dogs, and wolves. When he's
really just a Siberian Husky dog. Therefore, Balto is definitely full Siberian Husky. In true life, people probably would have not let a wolf hybrid take part in the Serum Run. See where I'm coming from? It's a great article, don't get me wrong. But he was full husky. |

I think Balto could be part wolf. But I think the movie got the Idea
from Togo because if you look at him he does look a little bit like a
wolf. Look Togo up and see for yourself. Plus I have read something
about the breeder of Balto and I have read that he did have mix breeds
as well, so it is possible that Balto could be part wolf or something
else maybe. |

I`ve seen Balto at the Cleveland museum of natural history. His paws
arent huge. They look like a normal dogs. He`s not that big, only as
big as a Husky can get. His eyes look like dog eyes. Fluffy? No not
much. He has no wolf in him. |

This is bullcrap. He was just a normal dog. On the lower end of the
quality scale, actually. Cannot believe how many people INSIST that the real Balto was part wolf. you'd think their lives depended on it, the way they whine. |

I'm sorry to burst everyone's bubble, but he was indeed 100% Siberian
Husky. Here is a helpful link telling you of his entire story. (One of many in fact) http://www.baltostruestory.com/balto.htm He wasn't wolf, half wolf, or a quarter wolf. He was bred solely for the purpose of racing, and he was thought "not good enough" by his breeder in the beginning, and was castrated (neutered) for being thought not decent Husky/racing stock. If your looking at his ears, just because they look fixed doesn't mean
he's purebred, wolves have naturally "fixed" ears, and some huskys
have a grey color, and some tests can be inherited, like his large
paws, anyway, the real balto was purebred, but they made him a wolfdog
to fit the storyline. |

Also, if there's one thing I've learned in my aspiration to become a
musher, you don't use Siberian huskies;you use a breed called Alaskan
huskies, which means a myriad of dog breeds mixed together to get an
ultimate sled dog. I learned this from the Seaveys (I met Dallas and
Jen in person  ) while watching a WildRide Sled Dog
Rodeo show. Many mushers use these dogs with a dollop of wolf within
their bloodlines. So ha. |

Okay, this seems to be quite a huge argument. The beliefs are split 50-50; what I mean is that some say he was a hybrid, others, a purebred. I've read many books on Balto, and some, such as The Adventures of Balto, say the filmmakers were liars and he was a Siberian husky. Others, like Five True Dog Stories, clearly make a point in his wolf heritage. Personally, I believe he was a wolf-dog. But, unless someone invents a time machine, we'll never truly know... |

The real Balto WASN'T part wolf  You can look him up anywhere on the
internet--it will say that in real life, he was a Husky. Balto was
born in a kennel that was owned by Leonard Seppala. Who was a musher.
I don't think a professional musher would be breeding his dogs to
wolfs to make obedient working dogs. And Balto wasn't big at all. He
was small, which was one of the reasons as to why Leonard didn't think
much of him before the serum run. His paws weren't of any significant
size either. Really, we don't need to try to convince ourselves that he actually WAS part wolf. Balto was special enough already. |

chill guys XD we are all entitled to an opinion! i will admit he is
an odd colour for a purebred husky :/ so its possable that he has part wolf, but also people must try to understand that purebreds can somtimes have "mutations" such as colour mutations or size mutations i have a pure bred parsons jack rusell terrier, he has a colour mutaution because where as JRT should be more than around 51%white with brown and black markings, my dog is 96% brown, with a small blaze of white on his underside! its possable that balto is just a husky with a similer mutatation as my JRT its the same as humans and eye colours, i wont get sciantific but you can have 2 brown eyes adults that prudice a blue eyed child. have a think about it |

If you really want to know if balto was part wolf or husky, look at his eyes. Only mixed breeds could have blue eyes, and look at balto's pictures (even though it's black and white) it looks like he has true brown eyes. Brown eyes indicates pure breeds, so this means Balto has to be a pure husky or malamute. |
