If Balto is part Husky, and part Wolf, he should be alot bigger than how the people who made balto drew him. A Wolf is normaly bigger than a Husky or Malamute, but whenever they draw Balto next to another dog his is tiny.

Here is an example. Also if Balto is part husky he should at least be the same size as Steele or the other huskies instead of being extra small.

I think mabey they should of drew him a little bigger, and not make him look weak and small, but thats just my opinion... Im not sure

I think that they drew him small to show how he felt on the inside ( small and inferior). I like it better that he is smaller. It reflects how much he feels about himself.

I agree with Dragon Tamer. It's probably a suggestion of sympathy. Besides, if Balto was bigger than Steele, then the parts where Steele bullies Balto wouldn't be very realistic or make much sense, would they?

Malamute's are big dogs,they can be bigger than Wolvles or Huskies.But it also depends on what kind of wolf Balto is to he lookes like a Timber Wolf but they can range in all sizes.Aniu looks like a Artic Wolf they are some of the biggest wolves around.

well all the dogs in the movie are different sizes so it really doesn't matter... maybe it's because he lacks of food or something but i say that all the dogs in the movie are all of different sizes.

it really depends on what type of wolf he was some are smaller than just your average dog. Besides Baltos body is the size of a dog his paws are the size of a wolf which maes him faster than the ohter dogs and stronger.

Just because Balto is have wolf doesn't mean he "has" to be bigger then Steel. For all we know Balto could have been the runt of the family. And steel is the villain. The animators wanted him to look big and strong.

I believe the reason is number one, Steele is supposed to be a bully. A bully is someone big who picks on someone smaller, so that is a likely reason. Another is simply upbringing. While Steele is a pedigree and has been fed and kept well, Balto is left to find his own food. It could be that Balto has not found much to eat and his growth has been stunted slightly by malnutrition. Wolves in a pack are large because it is more likely that they find food than Balto, who is alone and also has the wolf training from a goose.

Yes I agree... however Balto is a stray. Perhaps he didn't get enough food or possible he was the runt of the litter? You never know, we might just need to know Balto's past to actually say if he should be bigger or not. And plus, in that picture, he's crouching down which makes it appear that he is small. Good article though. ;]

okay....yes he should be, but because he is a mix between a wolf and a husky he isnt has big because he inherited both wolf and husky traits and them mixing can make them bigger or smaller

Not all wolves are the same size. Balto may be smaller because the Husky (his father) may have been small or the wolf (his mother) May have been small.

I think the artists intentionally drew balto small so that his victory will be that much greater to us, the audience. If Balto was drawn bigger, then psychologically it wouldn't seem that big of a deal. It's like the movie "Rudy"...the small outcast is the most victorious. Do you think that movie would've been better if a Rudy was played by a huge, muscle builder? My guess is no, the movie would've sucked. So I'm glad Balto is just a lil' guy. It makes the victory that much sweeter!

Heh, I can easily contest to that one - differing heights. Not only humans get their heights from their parents, dogs do too, and wolves. In B2 Ainu is a bit taller than Balto, so it must be his father who's the shorty. Besides, Steele's a pure-bred Malamute - he's been bred to be tall and muscular, and Balto hasn't. Balto was only young as well, but you are sorta right, wolves ARE bigger than dogs, but Balto was young and Steele is pure-bred.

I'm with some of the other Balto fans. Balto's size is just a way of showing Steele is more powerful and stronger than Balto. It kinda says " I can do anything to you, just beacuse I'm BIGGER".
