Boris's Fear of Heights

He wasn't afraid to fly in 1 & 2!

:

So most of us have seen all the Balto films, right?  Do you remember how in WoC Boris was afraid of heights?

Well, in the first two films, he flew very high: first, when Balto and the team arrived with the antitoxin, and second, when Aleu was nearly killed by that hunter.  In B2, he had said while swooping, 'Goose to the rescue!'  Do you remember these scenes now?

So I'm thinking that the reason they gave Boris a fear of heights was so they could make the Boris+Stella relationship a tad complicated.

Boris doesn't flies without some severe reason. When he detect critical situations, like Balto to be shot, or however his care let Boris win the fear of the altitude.

In the last episode Boris added other apologies in order to limit the Stella's love for him and continue to take care of Balto like in the previous episodes.
At the end Boris and Stella limited his meeting to a midnite swim.

True, he flew, but both times he was quite excited at the time. First time, quite obviously, because he was overjoyed at seeing Balto was alive and well and had saved the town. The second time, Aleu's life was in danger, and she's pretty much his granddaughter (he's Balto's adopted father after all). Excitement may have overridden his fear for those two situations. Notice he doesn't normally fly any other time, despite there being good reason to.

I noticed that while watching it once and thought "Hang on a second he flew in the other two!"
I personaly thought it was Universal and their nothing-to-do-with-the-original-Balto sub-stories, and what you said about the relationship makes sense aswell

I'm guessing that maybe something happened between the events of Wolf Quest and Wings Of Change that caused him to develop the case of acrophobia we see him exhibit in Wings Of Change.

Cat--I guite agree but that is rather kinda intersting how the creaters of Balto messed up with Boris so badly. x

Maybe Boris was able to squelch it in the past, but fear of making a fool of himself in front of Stella threw off his equilibrium. I climb trees all the time, but when I look down I sometimes get queasy too. If I were as anxious as Boris to impress someone, I'd probably be a bit anxious myself.

I believe that you're right. The whole "scared of heights" issue was probably added to produce conflict between Stella and Boris.

Say wut?
I would generally agree with what you're saying. MAYBE the movie makers were not paying attention, but when a bunch of kids/teenagers can point out things like this when the "professionals" can't, then...that's a pretty lame excuse. It was just a ploy to try to make the Boris/Stella thing interesting, although in my opinion it wasn't interesting either way XD (I was bugged about this same thing during the movie, and therefore I never enjoyed those parts.)

Good point made.
