Boris, what kind of goose is he? © Balto

I was watching Balto for Xth time when it dawned on me in none of the movies (Balto I, II, and III) Boris's true species isn't revealed.

We do know he is a goose with a Russian accent but we do not know what species he is.

I did some googling and research and didn't really find any russian geese matching Boris's description or coloring. When I was searching geese migration that go through Alaska this bird came up.

Recongize the coloring and markings on some of these geese? Does it look like the rascal comedian and caretaker of Muk, Luk, and Balto?

This may or may not be the exact goose species of Boris, but it could be one of few in the region.

If I have the species wrong, please do correct me

He is a snow goose I think. I found that out today, while watching a documentary. My first thought was "OMG that looks like Boris!"

boris is a Russian snow goose! he is afraid of heights, but regular russian snow geese would live in russia when it is winter in alaska and when it's winter in russia they migrate to alaska in the spring so it is warm there.

Well, as far as I know, there is not a species called a "Russian Snow
Goose." Although he is called that in the movie, that is merely
referring to the fact that he has a Russian accent and he is simply
referred to as a snow goose. Now I could be wrong, I haven't done any
research on this, but it's just what I think. But back to the subject
of your article, you did some nice research. It does indeed look quite
like Boris. Keep up the good work!

Okay, here's my only problem here: Boris is just a Snow Goose. There
is no species or subspecies called "Russian Snow Goose" in any of the
books in my extremely large collection of books on birds.
