We all have seen Balto 2 right? Well just in case you hadn't, a picture of Balto's pups include three blue eyed pups (Aleu included) and three brown eyed pups:

How did they get those eyes since Balto and Jenna both have brown?

For questions and answers here, I came to a conclusion of a
question. So would three wolves and three dogs? |

I think the animators drew 3 pupys blue eyes not to be repeated,
because most dogs have brown eyes |

dark> these punnett squares and genes aren't limited to humans. this
has been tested (and proven) to be exactly the same for plants, horses
(there's is more complicatated however) and other animals. blue eyes
are definately recessive for wolves and brown/ yellow eyes are
dominant. |

Nice job, Luna. Your knowledge on genetics is really good!! |

I never noticed they had blue eyes until now. I think maybe their eye
colour hadn't changed yet since puppy's eyes don't change colour until
they are a few weeks old. Of course this wouldn't explain Aleu, maybe
just recessive genes or the fact the animators just decided to give
her blue eyes cos it was "pretty" |

your useing human domance genes it could be different in dogs. also in wolves, wolf pups have blue eyes but they (mostly) turn golden brown/yellow once they get older _|B | b B|BB|Bb b|Bb|bb ~25% of the pups should have blue eyes (homozygous blue (bb)) ~50% heterozygous brown (Bb) ~25% homozygous brown (BB) |

you're probably right, but still, even if the pups were given blue
eyes to tell them apart, it's not like the animators noticed XD. they
kept changing and re-aranging the pups throughout the first parts of
the movie. |
| April 17, 2009 | ||
Since this is just a cartoon, I doubt that the animators actually went
into detail about genetics. They probably just gave some of the pups
blue eyes to make them look 'different' or 'more unique' so there were
easier ways to tell them apart, you see. |

Cool article, I never really took any notice of the pups eye
colour. |

great article! and now people can understand why they have blue eyes. |
| October 20, 2008 | ||
Calm down and ease up on the punctuation. Sheesh. No wonder there are so many problems on Balto Source. |
| October 15, 2008 | ||
I think you people are over-thinking a cartoon here. None of
the writers, animators, artists or other production staff used Punnett squares or dominance/recessive codes in their character development. At all. They were just creating cartoon characters. |

blue eyes are in husky's blood: blood is made of cells, cells have dna, dna has genes... but almost all huskies carry a blue gene so it isnt insanely ressesive like an albino or deformities... |

that was a good article but the animaters probably were not
thinking about little things about eye color... |

Southpaw- like i said in my article, two Bb dogs (meaning both have brown eyes) can have a blue eyed pup, so your pup's parents were probably both carriers... just because they both have brown eyes doesnt mean they arent carriers wolf paws- glad you liked it!! |

well really it jsut depends on the pups dominate gene, wolfves are not known for blue eyes and few if any have them. Jenna however was a husky so it wouldn't be uncomon for hey pups to have blues. It dosent really matter about the parents, I had a pup once who both parents had brown eyes, but they turned out with bright blue, si it jsut depends on the pup dominate gene, but good article. |
