byo0211 : Have you scence all the looks to Balto:

Ok now has you can see they have different pictures of him. If you look at the statue of him and the book cover you can see his tail is curled, BUT if you see the real picture of his real body you can see his tail wasn't in a curl, and you can also see the other side of the tail like you can see through it to the other side like someone cut of some fur maybe. Look at his cartoon picture now. Look at his eyes, thet have brown circles. In the book cover you see white circles. Look at his real body you can hardly make out the white around his eyes. Now the paws the book cover and Balto's real body have matching paws, but all of you know that the cartoon Balto was wolf/dog. What's kind of similiar with the cartoon and the body of Balto is that they have brown coats, other than the book cover it has a black coat unless it's a dark shading of brown. What also is different when you look at the real Balto's body you can see a reflection or something and I don't think it's a different dog cause the paws kinda look the same, too. But that means there is another model of him. For those of you that have seen the real Balto's body display please comment to tell you have scene another body display.

I would like to point out this is a article, not a place to flood your
love for Balto. First of all, this is a old article, but I can still shed light onto it. Huskies don't always have their tails curled. Take a look at this picture of Balto: /images/users/273/040.jpg This actually a screenshot taken from a video clip when Balto arrived in Nome, but Balto's tail was curled here. And here: http://www.perrofeliz.net/wp-content/images/balto-llegada-nome.jpg As for Balto's tail on his mount, this is most likely due to mounting, as it appears this way here as well. http://www.cmnh.org/site/Img/A [...] tExhibits/Balto/baltoMount.jpg This was taken shortly after he was mounted. Comparing the cartoon to the cover of this book, which is completely wrong in every way, is not the best idea. The cartoon Balto doesn't look anything like the real Balto. Anyway, the eye thing...The real Balto never appeared to have these white patches around his eyes(maybe slightly in some pictures). Which is rather weird to me, because his mount does. I think what happened here is that as Balto aged these markings slowly appeared, as any dog does when they age. But the thing is, I don't think these white spots around his eyes were that prominent when he was alive. So after Balto was mounted, and was under bright light, this advanced it. Pictures: http://www.cmnh.org/site/Img/AboutUs/Pressroom/Balto/Balto-4.jpg http://www.troikakennels.com/Images-Static/EH3.jpg This one could have possibly been the patches under his eyes, but I think this may have been the lighting of the photo. http://content.lib.washington. [...] XT=&REC=8&DMTHUMB=0&DMROTATE=0 I say that because look at this last known photo to Balto. This could be due to the quality of the photo, and the fact that this is a low quality photo, but there appears to be no white patch seen where his eye should be. http://www.alaskanmalamuteinfo.com/images/stor07.jpg So to conclude the eye thing, I think the reason you see so many pieces of art that has this is because of what people see on Balto's mount. And also the failure to do any research. And just to throw this out there, as seeing as the book cover is wrong, Balto's eyes were brown. As for the cartoon Balto, Balto was based off of huskies, so I don't know whether or not they referenced the real Balto or not. No, the real Balto was NOT brown. Balto is brown due to being in over exposed light, so the cover of the book is correct here. Lastly, no, just no...That is the most ridiculous logic I've ever heard. That is a reflection. I've been to the museum myself, and as dumb as this is, I can confirm there is not a "clone" of Balto. |

I think that the real Balto may have had a more curled tail when it
was wagging.My dog has a tail that looks like that normally, but when
he is excited, running, etc.it curls up. |

It is because of the lights in the mueseum that made his fur brown.
The book cover has his actual colors, except for the eypatches, maybe.
I think that the cartoon Balto is brown to match the display maybe. |

Ok, first of all, The book cover is RIGHT. Balto wasn't really brown, and I know, you all think he was because of the rl pic. But he was black and white. The color in his fur faded(he's dead and all, ya know) from a black to brownish color. And this has been mentioned before: dogs can curl and uncurl their tails. It just so happens that his tail got uncurled. http://aolsearch.aol.com/aol/r [...] .M&clickedItemDescriptionImage Details Notice in each pic. Balto is black and white. |

Baltos fur faded to brown ^^ it isnt just that he was brown, it faded to brown after some time of being... eh... stuffed. ^^;;;; he just had his colours beggining to fade... he was black and white, like on the book. :/ |

Did you fail to noticed two are drawings, one is a statue and one is actually Balto? |
| January 03, 2008 | ||
People change things. As he got older his tail began to uncurl... that's life... and in the musum in Ohio balto's body is almost hundred years old (70, 80 or 90 right now.) things change and that's what happends over time. |

I guess that's a good point, multi media such as books and movies don't usually get things correct when it come to original features or facts for that matter. |

The statue was made only 10 months after the Serum Run, and he was younger, so his tail would be fuller. Balto's body would have fur out because before he was sold to the museum, him and his team were part of sideshows and were abused, sadly, so his fur might have worn and everything. The real Balto's fur was black. The lights from the museum make it much lighter. As for the movie, Balto was made to look more wolf-like, to make a point that he was an outcast and they wanted him to look like he was part wolf (even though the real Balto was a purebred husky). Regarding the book cover: the illustrators might have made a slight mistake with the paws and the other markings. You can see the eye markings, though, very faintly on the eyes of Balto's stuffed body. Hope that helped |

Umm....um, yes, they are all different. I've seen all of those "looks" that "Balto" has had, or been given. (That was a good little book, btw!) But like, you do realize that a dog can possibly curl and uncurl its tail...? And I wasn't clear on a lot of what you pointed out, such as the "seeing through the other side of the tail as if someone cut some fur off" or something...but, I see what you're getting at. It's a nice group of images and interesting to compare.. |
