Marco was born on a winter night in Nome. From an early age he was seen as a prodigal dog, certainly the next sled leader. Once he grew up, he was the leader of a courier mission, but a very heavy snowfall hit the sled and eventually killed the human, and slowly the other dogs began to die: hungry or cold.

Frightened, he began to wander through the forest until he found Aniu, who cured him and helped him feed, and soon they fell in love. When Balto was born, Aniu begged Marco to take him to Nome with him and Marco accepted. The father and the puppy traveled for a month to find the city, where they were received with hatred

Marco asked Boris, a friend he had made before getting lost in the blizzard, to take care of Balto. Boris accepted and then Marco began to live like a stray.

After several years, Balto discovered that Marco was his father and the two began to build a fragile relation: Balto possessed resentments by the "abandonment" and Marco missed Aniu, which worsened with the presence of Balto.
