Rasta’s Scars were obtained by way of various ‘business ventures.” Having been a thief, one can only imagine the reaction of the person who owns what she steals. So she has walked away from jobs time and time again with a “souvenir” so to say. However, several of her scars were actually inflicted by her “business partner,” Azaira.

Bio:

Personality: Rasta is a cheap, cowardly, sticky-fingered rodent. She’s street smart, but if she gets in trouble her solution usually is to buy her way out of it if there’s something in it for her. She hates canines, and most other living creatures. She’s selfish, and only wants to live like a queen. However, on rare occasions she can be compassionate, and even though her occupation is morally wrong she refuses to harm anyone in the process. She is a bit pacifistic, but it has more to do with the fact the she has the courage of a weasel, and that’s what she actually is. She also at times has been known to use her “cute” appearance to manipulate people into getting what she wants, and unfortunately, it usually works.

Rasta’s relationship with Azaira:

Rasta first met Azaira after a job of stealing a nice hunting belt from an unsuspecting child. Apparently, Rasta was Azaira’s dinner. However Rasta never misses an opportunity, to have an opportunity, so when Azaira asked about the belt, Rasta couldn’t help but tell her everything about it. Including the bit about there being a map to Nome inside it, which coincidentally, was exactly was Azaira needed. After finding that out, Rasta just had to let it slip that she could read maps. So despite Azaira’s hunger, she hesitantly made a deal with the scum. If Rasta would act as a guide to Nome and read the map, Azaira would let her live; so the two embarked on the long dangerous journey. Throughout their journey, Rasta had dozens of times to escape, but oddly enough, she didn’t. And even when Azaira was close enough to Nome to find her own way, when Rasta was in trouble Azaira saved her. Somehow, the two held an strange bond.

History:

Kit life:   Rasta was born in the spring of 1921. Her mother was quite unprepared for the kits, and to be committed to them for an entire summer, but she stayed with them until mid-September, and then let them go on their own. Rasta was always quite attached to her mother, even though her mother didn’t care for her as much as she’d like. After her mother let her and her brothers loose, Rasta tracked her mother for days. When her mother picked up Rasta’s sent, she was very angry that she didn’t go her own way. Even so, the marten mother said a last goodbye to Rasta, and Rasta left traveling deep into the forest, unknowing of her next move.

Teenage life:   By the time breeding season came around, Rasta didn’t take much notice. Even though there were many other males around, she never stayed in one section of the wood long enough to establish a courtship and mate. But she soon discovered a game, a game she enjoyed a lot. She could sneak into human camps, act adorable, and get rewarded for it. She soon discovered how much better human food is than her usual diet of picky rodents such as voles. From the humans she sampled delicious cheeses, deer meat, and even salted jerky. Through the seasons she found that she began to lose her ability and will to hunt her natural prey. She turned from a predator, to a scavenger. This also made it harder to defend herself against other animals. Her only true defense was her quick feet and sharp claws in which she used to find trees.

Adult life:   As an adult, she began to rely more and more on humans for food and shelter. She trusted them almost too must. The scar around her eye came from a bayonet; she almost didn’t escape the insolent alive. After that, she has mixed feelings for the two-legers. She then started to discover her stealthy ability. She began to steal from the humans. But not just humans, everyone and everything, she would even take such a risk as to sneak into the boarders of a wolf pack territory, and fest on a half-eaten elk carcass. But it didn’t stop there. She even stole objects, things of value that she could trade with the less intelligent animals of the forest for even better food. She soon found herself in the service of an out-of-work alcoholic who would train a few pets of his to bring him jewelry and equipment to sell in exchange for food scraps. Rasta was even more of a fool and a risk taker then she ever was. As she brought things to the man, he gave her more and more food. Until, one day the man found out just how much her pelt was worth. One day when she brought him a shiny pocket watch, he tried to kill her. She gained other two scars from day, she would have died then also, but the man was too drunk to effectively catch the swift marten.  Despite anther near death experience, the Marten didn’t learn anything from the day, and kept thieving as she wished. Until one day, she decided to steal a nice belt, and a devious wolf made her give up more than she bargained for.

Relation to Balto: Comes in contact with several Balto characters on Azaira’s journey, and is even hired by Balto to recover Jenna’s bandana after it was stolen from a raccoon.
