Woopywulf, anything that involves tracing over an image and recoloring it to make it look like another character is considered rendering. No, a render involving canon characters is not a graphic.

Making graphics involves taking images (in this case, screencaps) and adding various effects. Cropping, adjusting the color, adding text, adding textures, making collages, etc. For example:

Thought I might add in my two cents about adoptables on Fan Images....

I am of the personal opinion that adoptables of any kind should not be on the Fan Images. There is an entire board on the forums for adoptables, and adopting via the forums is a lot more organized and moderated than on a gallery. Fan Images should be just be graphics (ie. wallpapers, avatars, banners, desktops, ect...) and renders (all issues aside with that topic; their allowed so they have to go somewhere). BrownWolf mentioned the "Guess the Parents" images, which I find fun and interesting and unique. BUT I personally don't think they should be adopted out. We have enough useless fan characters on this site already, and while I'm not against AU characters that are well-developed (ie. Cat's Fade), it's mostly just on excuse to have more under developed characters.

Anyways, to steer myself back on topic and away from the character issues, I think that the "Guess the Parents" images should only be a game. Just. A. Game. And adoptables should be limited to a thread on the forums and images should be limited to graphics and renders and line-arts.

P.S. To the mods, will the Character Section be cleaned up soon? There's been some issues coming up recently, and because it is the most popular (I'm assuming) section of the site, I think there really needs to be some unity on character relations to the Balto universe, color saturation and design, and how long a character bio must be. Please start discussing it soon...

And to Woopywulf, graphics are a mix of official images, or just one image, usually with some effects added and sometimes words. As stated above, the most common are desktop wallpapers and banners, but also signatures and avatars. Renders of official characters (however that works... ) are not graphics.

Moss -- If I might make a suggestion.

Adoptables should remain allowed, if, and only if they're connected to whatever source they're put on. Like, let's say a 'Guess the parents' adoptables.

As far as the lineart of adoptables... Really, in truth, adoptables that are used with different lineart on each image should remain. The ones that are used with the same one lineart on each image should not.

I am just a little confused here. Please can someone help me out? What exactly is a "graphic"?

For example. Would a render of one(or more) of the Universal characters with OUT one of your own characters be considered a "graphic"? Or is it something different?

Mighty- Ah, that's what you meant. The topic of adoptables never came up in the mod box. I believe they could be allowed, but since the majority of them are always just made with a lineart they shouldn't. I'll get the opinions of the other moderators.

Moss: People use linearts and make several different puppies and call them adoptables. There is a category on the forums for adoption (though random ones are against the rules, which is why I brought this up), so there is no need to place them in your image gallery. They aren't even graphics.

Lion- Yes that is a graphic c: and no, you don't have to delete any, just send in some images with official characters to balance the ratio out c:

NT- Changing the ratio to 20% is a more common rule, approved by the webmaster. It hasn't been modified yet when you send in a image, moderators can't change that. Hopefully though that will be fixed.

Mighty- Can what be applied? Adoptables can't be made on the wolf makers if that what you mean. They Certaintly aren't considered a graphic and shouldn't include any official character icons. They are considered a fan render.

Blazetail- MLP? I would assume that's not allowed, unless its an official character mlp style. I noticed another moderator closed alot of SS reports.. Can you send me a PM if there are still some problems about certain images.

Can this also apply to those random adoptables?

Okay, so I have 69 images, and they're all (apart from the one above) Renders, coloured renders and filled in linearts. Does this newsletter mean I have to delete a majority of them and post more graphics? I'm confused...

NT: On some sources it actually says 1 in 4 must be official characters. I believe Bambi Source is one of them, Lady and the Tramp may be another, and a couple of others too.

NT -- The rules on this site are basically two-demensional. They need to be redone, but who knows when that'll happen.

Good to know, I assume this information will be displayed to users before they can submit their images now? I tried submitting an image for the first time today, and it said the rule was 1 in 10 must contain official characters, not 20%. I also don't believe it mentioned the rule that your first image must be a graphic, which I may have broken (in my defense, this wasn't posted until after I had submitted my render, so I had no idea).

Oh, okay, I thought it was for all main character related images.

Bopsie -- Read the news again very carefully. This only applies to the first image in your fan image gallery, or any section for that matter. The first must always, ALWAYS be a graphic of some kind, whether it's a wallpaper, an avatar, or somethig that MUST contain an official movie character. Then, and ONLY then can you do works with your fan character creations and, yes, add official ones to the mix.

So a fan character with a strong relation to a main character can't have an image made of them together? How is that fair to all the people who have various fan made children of main Characters?

can content be modded closer? i keep seeing stuff thats rendered in fanart not fan images and have to report,one even is a must see!this image stole a background (they didn't credit the vector artist) and traced 2 other vectors one of which i can't find but I've seen the other that i have found

also can we have set rules for mlp stuff on SS ,me and another member where told its not allowed but some users it is

Renders are still allowed, it's just they're not considered a graphic, which is what your first image and at least 20% of your gallery need to be. Blanks just can't have icon features.

Wait, so I'm confused. We're allowed to send in blank renders, but not actual renders?

Aperture--> The 20% official ratio applies to ALL sections, if that's what you mean. It always has. It's not just images.

Will this apply to fanart as well?
