I will say at once, it is this cartoon to me since childhood and this is a worthy sequel. Direct continuation. I do not guess about the existence of "Wolf Quest". This is one of those rare occasions when Sequel (not cheapquel) sometimes better than the original. The plot is interesting, dynamic, sometimes stressful. But made with love.
Now I will compare the old vs. the new: "Balto" against "Balto: Wings of Change".
1.The technical component. Backgrounds and character animations. If the style of the first cartoon was more like a traditional Disney style of 60-80s, stylistics "WoC" recalls picture quality mix "Brother Bear" and "The Lion King 2". In my opinion, the design of the characters in "WoC" much more creative, thoughtful and more personal. In "Balto" character design is somewhat limited. And the characters in the first film was too much, they are similar and do not memorable. Backgrounds in "WoC" very beautiful. There are stunning rich winter colors, beautiful handmade paints (slightly used computer - for smoothness and tenderness of colors). And what there is physics! Realistic sun's rays, the sky thick clouds are float, real mountains. It's very stunning. However, I personally, at least in "WoC" character designs drawn much cooler, backgrounds in the first movie I enjoy a little more. They were drawn only by hand , and this thin neat job immediately obvious. Although "WoC" a lot of dynamic dizzying moments. So here 50/50.
2. Remarkably, the artists, staging and screenwriters - the same team that made the first film (except the director and composer are another). A great find! All original characters similar to themselves! They have grown up here, but it's still they are! Their gait, facial expressions, eye and gaze - thanks to artists. In this cartoon music is pretty good (sometimes even awesome), but the music from the original film is masterpiece. In "WoC" heard three songs (one in the credits). This is despite the fact that "WQ" as many as four, plus a double chorus, plus the song in the credits. So I do not understand why many consider the musical "WoC". Jena's song pretty nice, also quite invigorating and soothing. Stella's song sometimes funny, sometimes not very necessary to the plot.
3. The personality of the characters. In this cartoon remarkably they have character! Everyone (even people airedale Mel and fat dachshund Dipsy, goose Stella) has a vibrant and unique character (compared with two squeaky Jenna's friends and with Steele's retinue, they are personal individuals). Balto became confident, he howls like a wolf, charismatic brave cunning, but also a responsible husband and father. In "WoC" he learned to dodge attacks. Good For You. Another very pleasant surprise - Jenna has a personality! She worries and supports Balto and Kodi, gentle and solid, she demonstrates mother's love and a strong spirit. She does not give up, plays quite an important role. Characters such heroes as Kirby, Ralph and Dusty I too can describe. Appears man named Duke (I can not explain it, but he reminds me of the Germans). The idea is very interesting. Winning the sequel.
4. Now Kodi. Oddly enough, but in the sequel a lot of famous voices (for example, Jodi Benson, Carl Weathers, Sean Astin), they are very well voiced. Unlike Aleu, which was clichéd annoying teenager, Kodi has a calm and reasonable (sometimes not always sure, but purposeful) temperament. Anyway, it's not a whiner from "Batman and Robin", who dreams to the glory of a successful partner.
5. Now go to the script and the story. Illogical moments are smaller. And here's the thing. Personally, I like the script of the sequel much more. There is no villain, here referred to the events of the original film, there is shown a close-knit team, willing to help, communication and friendship of man and animal and wrestling. Thus, on the rare, sequel few better than the original.
However, I have three questions:
1. Why did the goose Boris lost his grouchiness and wisdom (though if Balto found its way, in all good - and he can have some fun)?
2. Why Muk and Luk still has not grown? Three years have passed, they must become adults.
3. Where did all the wolves? I do not consider "WQ" (it is cheapquel and fanfic). In "WoC" they would look just like the original. So true.
However, this is a very good cartoon, with dynamic plot and interesting characters. He can not like only for fans of trashy and cheap WQ. In my opinion, this is the best part with the best backbone of the plot of all dilogy.
