He's not a alaskan malmute, If you look at a picture of Balto stuffed closely, that little sign would say "Siberen Husky". I know, I can't spell. LOL!

Balto, was 100% Siberian husky.

As I will show you, there is a big difference between the breeds.

The Malamute, was breed to carry large loads, so they are bigger in size and have thicker coats. Malamutes also only have brown eyes.

Husky's are smaller in size, as they are meant for lighter loads. Husky's have blue or brown eyes or both.

I think Balto is a Alaskan husky mix, since Alaskan huskies can have bib and sock markings that like almost like Balto's, but most people think that he is a Siberian husky.

You don't even need to say you reported anything.

I didn't, however, once a topic is reported, someone else cant come and report it again.

I always thought Balto is a siberian husky. Whether he is a half breed or whether he is a pure breed would be almost impossible to find out.

I've read a lot of historical material on this, including "The Cruelest Miles" which is the definitive book on the serum run and Balto was a 100% Siberian Husky. An Alaskan husky is a loosely defined cross-breed of a Siberian husky. At the time, all sled dogs were Siberians or Malamutes. Malamutes were larger dogs that were usually the wheel dogs (the dogs closest to the sled). In almost all cases, the lead dog was a purebred Siberian Husky.

If there were any more doubt, the Cleveland Museum has "Siberian Husky" written in his display case. Here is a link.

as far as I know BALTO is a cross breed of SIBERIAN & MALAMUTE...I'd have to say he was black, and over time
the coat has faded to the mohogany color... taxidermy can only do so much to preserve a body. Exposure to light
and air breaks things down over time..

some images I saw online of the preserved body look black, and some look mohogany
