You guys are making good points. Although I was all on board for the idea, perhaps it wouldn't be such a good thing after all... Not because it would cause many members to flood away from the sites because, honestly, I liked the site better before - around the time when I first joined until about 2010. It was better with less people, because the people that were here actually cared for the movies. Maybe it would be better for people to just move their unrelated characters to deviantArt or some other site that allows that kind of thing... I feel like a hypocrite for saying it considering I was on board for the fan character hub, but *shrug* the points made seemed to have turned my opinion...

Honestly, I think that the idea of a 'OCsource' is just pandering to those whom have characters that would be deactivated/deleted under the new rules, and the people who wouldn't like that. It would divert that attention away from the main sites also, which some would say is a good thing in that we wouldn't have to deal with it anymore... but is it? You'd still have swathes of these types of characters (many poorly made if the 'anything goes' standard sticks) with their own site dedicated to them. Do we want that for Animation Source, a 'hub' for sites catering to fans of animated films and TV series?

I don't agree with deleting all the characters, if I remember correctly that has been done before and just caused a lot of chaos and didn't solve the problem.
I don't agree with the second point about an OCsource. There are many other sites that cater for what an OCsource would provide (FA, DevArt, and many others)... and it doesn't really fit with the premise of what Animation Source, to me, is about.
I fully agree with Nattikat's option three of character mods, however, they'd be sorely needed if we had a rule change anyway

That's my personal opinion (obviously). If steet does envision a different future of Animation Source that does include content that the OCsource would generate then go right ahead. These ideas are just different and conflicting to my own.

I find it extremely distressing and disappointing that they've just opened 101 Dalmatians Source and already the characters put up there are unrelated, having no real purpose whatsoever. Oy...

Already? Good grief! That doesn't help the character issue at all. Uh... I wish I could add more to this, but it may get me fired or something, so I won't.

This is probably just going to muddy the water further, but it occurs to me that characters who start off unrelated may become part of the story, like in the Redwall books. Still, it would be poor writing to have a character first mentioned in one fanfic and only later become part of the real plot, so that point is academic.

In other news, my suggestions seem to be well-liked on the shoutbox. Not sure why the people there don't come here.

Yeah, I just went over there. Even though only one is listed as Not related, most of the related characters there don't have very good relations or no relation at all that I can see. I especaily love the one that says Relations To 101 Dalmatians: to be revealed...

Now that last one I can understand, if the person hasn't posted their stories yet and wants the connection to be a surprise. As a temporary stand-in, I think it works.
