I agree with Togo, when i read his post i realised most of the both films, and i agree Balto is alittle better for many reasons. Warning: When i start typing i never end o.o this is alittle more like a review but it will explain my reasons for choosing my faveourte
Artwork:
Balto was great artwork, but on the squeals the artwork did dumb down and wasnt as great, theres reasons for this but still
Lionking artwork was great 1,2,3 all had great artwork no changes (in my opinion i may be wrong)
but this is based on the first films Balto and Lion king 1, Balto Had incredible artwork it was perfect and the northen lights were great. snow forests and well done backgrounds, Lionking was also great for his art but i prefere balto its the one thing that caught my eye.

Characters:
Balto had very good characters, Got the wolfdog Balto whos in my opinion one of the best characters in my list, always good always kind and protects those he loves and helps them. Jenna his mate was very well played even though she was on not as much. Boris and muk and luk were the comedy in the film i am guessing, boris was very well done i liked him couldnt be done without, Muk And Luk wernt as much good. They were not a good feature for the film but did deliever some laughs. Steele, I hate this gloryhound,annoying,and ugly in my opinion, his art could of been better, too male like Husky, being big and showing teeth and glares.. But i guess he was needed to make the film perfect, always need a downfall for films or it always be happy go lucky
Lion king was simular in its own way, got the main lion Simba whos a great character. Couldnt hate him, hero of the first film as he is saving the pridelands from the hyenas. Nala his mate wasnt as much, i prefered Jenna to her as jenna was more of a impact to me, Nala was just that addon who follows simba but she was useful as she the one who made simba think of his homeland again. Mufassa and sarabi the parents of simba didnt have much time on but i loved mufassa, his death was very sad and you always need a father type for a film which includes cubs and sarabi wasnt as much time on, but that didnt stop some of the fans to liking her. timon and Pumba were simular to boris/muk/luk the comedy in the film, they were alot better then muk and luk and was needed to take simba in and have fun and ofcouse who could forget Hakuna motata (forgot how it was spelt) Now Scar.. Scar is my favourte villian hes the one villian i loved, Steele i didnt care anything for but Scar was the best. Without him, lion king would be completly different, and he keeps a nice posh tone to himself but looking so digustily evil. Now the hyenas are pretty much muk n luk but in a trio and more funny and they were evil and funny, muk n luk were just randomly odd bears
but all in all Lion king got my vote for that

Story!: now i have missed a few others but i keeping it to 3 so i dont write a book on reasons
The stories in both film were Great, no doubt who couldnt love them?
Instead of saying all the storys of both i am going to point out my best/worst parts
Balto: The fact its about dogs/wolves/bears/geese/humans is great its one of the best sets for a animal film, i loved the heroism of Balto going to save the kids of nome. Jenna being a great side character who kept balto going. And ending in a great rescue and everyone loves him for geting the medicine. And might i add the one point where it twisted me, At the last live-action scene when the grandma looked to the statue and repeated to same words rosie said to balto in the film. Taken me by suprise that it was rosie who told the story and ended in a great song =) the first film i stay for credits, the one part i didnt like is steele :/ and the fact how he falls from a Big cliff and survives. no injurys or anything? I already discussed this ina topic so enough said
Lion king: Well This film was the first disney film i re-watched as a teenager. i watched a few when i was young but lionking was the first i watched at the age of 13. and i loved it! Simba as a pup wasnt my favourte, he was good but he wasnt much to my eye, i did love the last parts of the film of his fight with scar and such, Scar is my favourte villian though, i already said why in the characters part so not much to repeat, but scar and simba both were great for the film and the middle-point of simba and timon/pumba was good with a catchy song, Brilliant songs for this film and powerful and sad moments
Final notes: Balto and lion king have 1 difference, balto got no songs (not including the credits and such) but lionking has plenty, I kind of found this better for balto as the songs in lionking are awesome but i loved that balto didnt have any, it was better without. not mentioning that the sequals did some songs :/ but they wernt bad either
And Balto is based on a true story so extra push to balto side

Note: Im sorry this is a very long post but like i said at first, i wanted to make all my points clear, didnt want to say (balto is my fave) i wanted to explain why. Hope thats ok ^^

You made very intresting points and I agree with most of them, but I find the fact that you gave a "score" to the two movies too simplistic: in my opinion it's the overall impression that matters and that makes you like a movie more than another, while the detailed analysis is just a second step that should be used to say why you prefer a movie.
