Geeri lay down in her family's thicket; she breathed a sigh of weariness, and then one of relief at the fact that her fawns - Jesien, Flinder, Quova and Ammet - were safely hidden, safe and dry. Lughooey had brought them all to the thicket speedily, before the weather raged its worse. Now the rain was drumming down like a million deer running by.
Flinder, a fairly bossy but selfless girl, demanded all her siblings lie close together next to their mother while she took up the edge of the group huddle. Lughooey, standing, looked down at his big family with pride, then prodded Flinder's pale chestnut flank, fondly, with a forehoof.
'You look a tad cold there at the border, miss! I'll just settle here, shall I . . . ?' Lughooey knelt down, so that he and Geeri lay nose-to-nose, rump-to-rump, with all their little ones beween.
'Comfy?' asked Lughooey.
'Yes, sir!' chorused the fawns.
