Someone on the forums claimed the existance of a rare tape containing a censored scene (perhaps the 'charlie hit by car' scene).could anyone upload that scene(s) on youtube or tell me which type of vhs copy includes the deleted segments?

Unlike the Land Before Time early VHS which have censored scenes, ADGTH early tapes don't have any censored scenes. Don Bluth was planning on releasing a uncut version, but the tape was stolen and unfortunately that means we can't see them. :C Mostly it was just Charlie getting hit by the car and the hell nightmare. Sorry to be the bringer of bad news.

Charlie being hit by a car and his nightmare about Hell were cut scenes? I've never seen a version without them.

What's this about censored scenes from the Land Before Time?

Originally the shot of Charlie being hit showed his body flying through the air and landing in the water. Also, around a minute of the nightmare scene was cut, where the devil moves close to Charlie, speaking to him and reaching out for Charlie as his minions chewed at his ears. In the case of the land before time, over 20 minutes were cut, mostly scenes that Speilberg thought would be too scary. Another scene that was cut was the dino's being refused to drink at a pond because they did not look the same. The ending was also altered, Littlefoot is all alone and finds the great valley and almost enters it, but runs back to save his friends from lava, nearly getting killed by a raptor. The VHS had a 2 minute extended battle with the sharptooth

Hmm, the pond scene sounds superfluous, yes. Would I be right in thinking that these scenes would be on some special edition DVD, though? I'd like to see them. Also, I did know that in the original ending the characters died and the Great Valley turned out to be the dinosaurs' equivalent to Heaven (I'm glad they changed that, though it would have been nice to see Littlefoot reunited with his mother).

As for the VHS, I watched the movie so many times as a kid that I still knew it cold in high school, and when I watched a DVD of it, I didn't notice any missing content.

I'm glad that they did trim the movie to be more kid-friendly. The Land Before Time was a defining part of my childhood specifically because it was packaged for kids (i.e. it sparked the epiphany when I realized that entertainment could teach values), and I think that missing that lightbulb moment would have been a pretty bad loss.

I haven't seen any original script floating around, though maybe it's on DonBluth.com, but then again, you have to pay to view some things on there. :c

That's just a small amount of the deleted scenes for LBT, another consisted of Ducky luring Spike to follow her with berries and Cera arguing against the idea of Spike coming along. Also, cut dialogue from the Grandparents when Littlefoot's mother wakes up to see him missing. The pond scene was meant to show Cera the error of her ways, and Ducky grows upset with her own kind that won't let her friends drink. I really don't think any of Judith's dialogue should have been cut, because it should have been put back out of respect. The DVD's are actually even more edited, though just by perhaps a minute. Don Bluth himself stated he believes the footage has been destroyed, so no real hope of ever seeing them.

That's truly unfortunate.

it would have been cooler if the hellhound sang a dark reprise of "let me be surprised" to charlie in that scene.
